The hot trend of resurrecting classic games with questionable smoothed-over graphics and unpleasant on-screen controls for release on iDevices continued today with Capcom's launch of Mega Man X on Apple hand-computers. You can grab it now for $4.99, or pay a little extra if you fancy buying power-ups with in-app purchasing.

Alongside 'Normal Mode,' which Capcom says "allows more skilled gamers to enjoy the game in its true form," there's a new Easy Mode with extra platforms. It's a sensible idea, considering this is made to be played on the move, which was also seen in Mega Man 10 on Xbox 360 and PS3.

If you want Mega Man X to be really easy, though, you can whip out your credit card to buy power-ups such as full weapons or armor through in-app purchasing. You know, if you want to.

Customer reviews on iTunes are not entirely enthusiastic, noting that Capcom has replaced some of the music along with the graphics.

"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa," exclaimed Shacknews writer Steve Watts upon discovering that Shacknews writer Alice O'Connor has never played not even single Mega Man game. Surely nobody has played Mega Man X, O'Connor points out, as it did launch one week after Doom.

and the bosses are nerfed. They go down with the regular buster with just a few charge shots.

Well Penguin was always the weakest to the regular buster, but 3 or 4? That's lame.

I'd play games like this if there was a good game controller adapter available for the iPhone. Something with a physical D-pad and buttons.
