EA's upcoming SSX reboot has been delayed. Originally scheduled for Valentine's Day 2012, SSX is now slipping past its great-for-marketing date by two weeks.

"We recently decided to take a couple of extra weeks to give our game the final bit of polish we think it deserves," creative director Todd Batty explained. "This means that we won’t be shipping the game to you until Feb. 28 in North America and Mar. 2 in the rest of the world. We hope that given how long you have waited for SSX to come back, you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer."

Batty explains in an open letter to fans that very rarely do games get additional time for polish. However, Batty believes that getting a bit of extra time is what made the classic games so good. "SSX was one of the games that always took the time to do exactly that. There is a reason why Tricky and SSX3 are still among the highest rated games of all time, and it is because even playing them today they still stand the test of time," Batty noted. "Our goal from Day 1 was to re-launch this amazing franchise with a new SSX game that could live up to that legacy."

Both Xav and I really enjoyed our hands-on time with SSX. EA could very well be onto something big.
