Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances announced for browsers
by Alice O'Connor, Dec 14, 2011 7:15am PST[Update: 09:00] EA has now sent over a trailer giving a peek at the game.
Hot on the heels of the announcement of Command & Conquer Generals 2 over the weekend comes word of another new C&C game, a free-to-play social affair by the name of Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances. It's being developed by EA Phenomic, the studio behind the free-to-play Battleforge and Lord of Ultima.
Built upon HTML 5, Tiberium Alliances will be playable in any web browser supporting it. EA describes it as an MMO packing "hardcore strategy gameplay" with alliances to form and a "dynamically updating map" to conquer, but offers few details on how it'll actually all work.
"In the quest for world domination, players must choose their friends wisely and foster strategic alliances as they fight against each other and hordes of mutant enemies," reads EA's press blurb.
But will battles resemble the real-time C&C we all know and remember fondly then grimace slightly as we remember recent entries, or your typical, plodding browser strategy game? EA's not spilling any screenshots or real details for now.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to forge new ground with this acclaimed franchise," Phenomic senior producer Martin Löhlein said in the announcement. "We're hoping to deliver an experience that will allow our loyal fans to play their favorite franchise anywhere they go, while introducing the exciting world of Tiberium to new players."
Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances enters closed beta on December 15. You can sign up now if you fancy seeing what it's all about.
