Sonic CD hits Xbox 360 tomorrow, PS3 next week for $5
by Steve Watts, Dec 13, 2011 2:45pm PSTSonic CD, regarded as one of the best 2D Sonic titles, will arrive on the XBLA tomorrow with a PSN release planned for next week. The 1993 classic was originally announced for consoles and mobile devices earlier this year. Sonic CD for the iOS platform will also arrive tomorrow, with Android and Windows 7 versions to follow in 2012.
The classic will be available for a surprisingly decent price of $4.99 (400 MSP) across all consoles, a nice change of pace as more downloadable games enter the $15 range. The Android and iOS versions will be available for $1.99. This Sonic CD re-release adds Tails as a playable character, along with the US and Japanese soundtracks for the game.
"Sonic's 20th Anniversary has been a banner year for him--as well as for everyone at SEGA," said Sega digital senior VP Haruki Satomi in the announcement. "Gamers around the world are rediscovering their love of Sonic through his adventures, new and old. Whether you're a long-time hedgehog aficionado looking to enjoy a favourite moment from Sonic's past, or a brand-new player who wants to join in on the fun, there's no better place to start than with one of Sonic's most celebrated games, Sonic CD."
