As expected, Namco Bandai has finally officially announced a console version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2. First announced for Japanese arcades at Tokyo Game Show 2010, Namco Bandai has revealed that the fighting game will arrive on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, the game is set to arrive much later than originally anticipated, as TTT2 has a planned "holidays 2012" release.

The console version will include extra features not found in the arcade release, although Namco Bandai is keeping mum on these additions for now. Online functionality has been "completely reworked" for the PS3/Xbox 360 port.

Namco Bandai claims that the Tekken franchise is currently "the top-selling fighting game franchise worldwide," with 40 million units sold through the franchise to date. "We know that expectations for the widely anticipated sequel to Tekken Tag Tournament are high," Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada said in a press release. "And we are confident that we will deliver what fans have been asking for and even more."

An early preview demo of Tag Tournament 2 is currently available on PlayStation 3 via the Tekken Hybrid bundle.
