Shock! There's going to be another Batman: Arkham game. Titled Batman: Arkham World, the game was teased during the Spike TV Video Game Awards during the "acceptance speech" for Joker, who won the Best Character award from the show. While accepting the award, the CG animated Joker held up a script for "Batman: Arkham World," saying "whoops, spoilers."

Whoops

Of course, this is far from a formal announcement. Still, the Batman series has a penchant for VGA-related announcements, given by Arkham City's CG debut at the VGAs last year. A follow-up to City is inevitable... but we're hoping the title will get a change. We've contacted publisher WB for follow-up information. (Otherwise, can we expect Arkham 4 to be Arkham Galaxy?) [Ed. Note: The headline of this article was changed from 'announced' to 'teased' while we wait on word from Warner Bros.]

Really? Because I, and I'm sure most others, simply took that whole bit to be a joke.

Actually the title may be appropriate especially with the reveal near the end.

When it was revealed that the whole Arkham City thing was a plot by Ra's Al Ghul in his attempt to orchestrate his plans to change the world "for the better". Sure he was thrown off Wonder Tower soon after. But with his Lazarus Pits he never stays "dead" for long."

So I won't be surprised if Ra's starts moving his plan forward anyway, despite his defeat, as it was already shown to him as being a possible and successful operation.

Joke? Maybe. Trial balloon? Maybe. But (without revealing specific spoilers) anyone that's played through all of Arkham City should know that a third game is inevitable.

I'd rather them do something more linear and focused. I like Arkham City, but it's a little to sandbox. And Arkham World? Why not call it Batman: Gotham City.

Jesus guys! There is jumping the gun, and then there is this! "Arkham World announced"?, Ok, so then it was changed to "Arkham World teased". I love you guys but, come on man. Can't you see this is a blatant joke, teased by none other than THE JOKER?... THE JOKER made a JOKE about having a script for Arkham World...Wasn't that obvious? And may I remind you that [CENSORED, CENSORED, CENSORED, CENSORED]. I think Angry Birds 2 featuring The Penguin have a better chance of being released ( I'm joking guys! Don't headline this! )

Bring it on. I am still in awe of Rocksteady. They make many senior third party studios look bad. Asylum came out of nowhere and it was borderline flawless. City is just as good, if not better. I'll take anything these guys are selling. They would have to pull a Dragon Age 2 before I start second guessing them.

Maybe it was a joke, but probably not. Rocksteady announced Arkham City at the 2009 VGAs, and the Arkham World title could change. At least I hope it does. "City" at least made sense, but "World"?

Yes, ANNOUNCED is the key word, and it came with the debut trailer. All these websites jumping on this non-news (with the first probably thinking he was really clever to pick up on it...) is sensationalist and unwarranted.

This is clearly a piss take, they even joked about there being an Arkham World/Galaxy/Universe IN THE GAME (you can overhear Penguins henchmen talking about in the latter half of the game).

Next one will just be called Gotham City.

      Count on it.

I think everyone is missing the Joker's joke in his acceptance speech, he is holding up the Arkham World script and saying he does not need it. Because if you made it to the end of Arkham City you know that The Joker is dead!

The next game should just be Batman: Gotham City where they just expand the map to include AC and GC in the same map. Do that with some quick travel points via the Batwing and a new story and I'll play.

Uhh...are there really only a few of us who realize this is a joke? Come on, it's not like Rocksteady was unaware of all the internet chatter after Arkham City's release along the lines of "What's next for these guys, like, Arkham World, lulz!?"
