Rumor: Ryse now planned for next-gen Xbox

A rumor has surfaced that development of Crytek's upcoming first-person combat game Ryse is now planned Microsoft's next-generation console, not the Xbox 360.

Ryse, Crytek's Kinect-powered first-person melee combat game set in ancient Rome, may be headed to Microsoft's next-gen console (whatever that may be). A former senior level designer at Crytek has indicated as much on her LinkedIn profile.

The information--unearthed by Eurogamer--is listed in the former Crytek employee's work experience, and is as follows:

RYSE (X-Box Next Gen) Pushing boundaries of next generation gaming, RYSE is an original AAA IP from Crytek slated to deliver an Epic first-person melee experience in the Roman Empire.

Comments spotted on the industry forum NeoGaf seem to support this assertion, and indicate that during a student lecture a Crytek representative said there was a "big chance of Ryse going next gen because of all the work they had to do and all the people they are hiring for the Ryse team."

Neither Microsoft Game Studios or Crytek have provided official comment on the rumor yet, but we'll keep you posted.

They announced this for Deus Ex HR as well, a bunch of games in fact. Remember when Kotick let something drop about moving CoD over to the PC unless the 360 advanced its hardware and changed its online business model? Publishers and devs say this in an attempt to spur on development, not to actually indicate they've changed anything about the game's development.

Kotick is hilarious when he threatens moving CoD to away from something. He's done it like five times.

Yo Crytek, there's a system with next gen levels of grunt out there already, it's called a PC.

If you weren't such butthurt wankers about everything you'd see that and take advantage of it.

Next gen consoles are superior to PC.

Where do you think they get the technology to build new consoles? PC hardware.

The first Xbox was based on the PC, the 360 was based on the PC, and the next-gen consoles will be based on PCs. The catch is, the consoles is based on current PC technology that is not upgradable until a new console is released. The 360 is a 6-year-old PC.

PCs we have now will be the next-gen consoles.

Yeah that would be smart. Throw away potentially millions of sales.

Or make even more by re-releasing it on next-gen (after doing a PC release). Morons like buying games twice, for some reason.
