Nintendo's slightly delayed 3DS firmware update has hit, packing the promised features alongside a few surprises. It brings the ability to record 10 minutes of (grainy) 3D video, system data transfers, plus new Puzzle Swap puzzles and a sequel to Find Mii. But the "Accomplishments" feature is the one making waves.

"Accomplishments" are very much like Achievements or Trophies, but for the moment at least are relegated strictly to the system's own StreetPass and mini-games. You might get one for StreetPassing people from a set number of regions, for example. Any that you've already earned will be given to you automatically when you start up the StreetPass Plaza.

Nintendo hasn't announced any plans to expand this feature into its full-fledged games, much less offer it to third-parties, but we lovers of meaningless rewards can always hope.

The update adds a "Nintendo Zone" that will let you receive content from special hotspots. And though none is available quite yet, an entry for "Add-On Content" can be found in the Data Management section. Nintendo recently announced it would bring DLC to first-party games.

Other minor functionality updates gathered by GoNintendo include the ability to store credit card information, delete photos and videos, QR scanning for eShop pages, and a sound test in the StreetPass Plaza.
