PopCap is retooling Bejeweled with two new games for iOS. However, in the process, it's also retiring the current version of Bejewled 2 + Blitz, so grab it off the App Store before it disappears forever.

The new release of Bejeweled Blitz will be PopCap's first experiment with the freemium F2P model on Apple devices. Blitz will offer the same 60-second gameplay Blitz is known for, this time with "full Facebook integration" and a new user-interface designed for the Retina display touch screen.

It appears "coins" will be the currency powering the freemium version of Blitz, and players will be able to use "The Daily Spin" to unlock bonus coins every day.

The free-to-play version of Bejeweled is part of PopCap's effort to "reach virtually everyone," according to Giordano Bruno Contestabile, Bejeweled franchise business director. Echoing previous sentiments, Contestabile added that "PopCap will continue to make games that are even more accessible to that ever-expanding global audience."

The new Bejeweled re-release for iOS, which replaces the previous version, will feature new high-res graphics and retina display support. Three game modes will be included: Classic, Zen, and Diamond Mine. The initial release will also offer 7 achievement badges and a player ranking system. As is standard for most iOS games, this offering will "continually evolve with a range of new and exciting features."

I hate this "retiring" of games they're doing on iOS now. First tetris then this.

They need to get working on PvZ2 instead of rehashing all their old junk!!

Wait they removed the original? Why? My version already has blitz as a mode.

As for Tetris I love the new version, but why wouldn't they call it "Tetris 2" or "Tetris Touch" or some shit? Removing the old one doesn't make any sense. Though to be honest since the new game includes the old mode I can't see myself going back and playing the old app.
