Back to Karkand, the first expansion pack for Battlefield 3, has been dated. It will be available on December 6th on PS3. As part of Sony's exclusivity deal with EA, PC and Xbox 360 players will have to wait one week before they can jump in.

The DLC pack, included free with "Limited Edition" copies of the game, includes four classic Battlefield maps re-imagined in Battlefield 3's Frostbite 2 engine. There are three new vehicles: the VSTOL figher jet, desert buggy, and an APC, ten new weapons, and new assignments.

The expansion pack will cost $15 for anyone that doesn't have a voucher. In addition to the new content, the add-on will introduce five new trophies/achievements:

  • Complete Warrior (Silver)

Get a kill with the following weapons in a single life: Rifle, Jet, Tank

  • Third Tour (Bronze)

Get a kill with the new APC, Desert Buggy, and STOVL fighter jet

  • Gunslinger (Bronze)

Get 10 kills with all B2K weapons

  • Like a Boss! (Silver)

Get a kill with the skid loader

  • Jaws (Bronze)

Take a swim in the pool at the Oman hotel

Of course, Karkand is just the first expansion pack, with more coming in the future. "There's even more great content planned for the future, so stay tuned!"

It is a PR blunder to be sure. They really shouldn't have pulled a timed-exclusive stunt with the preorder bonus expansion that everyone that preordered paid for. A week delay is trivial in the grand scheme of things but they could have easily done some minor concessions to the PS3 users that didn't effect the other platforms. They could have offered camouflage/specact skins or custom dog tags.

they get it a week early because 1943 ended up being cancelled for the ps3. the week early offering is in hopes to appease pre-order customers for the loss.

So, I paid the same price as PS3 players, I don't get 1943 for free and I have to wait a week for the maps... thanks EA!

I keep being tempted to buy the game, but knowing Karkland is right around the corner and that I'd have to buy the game then the DLC keeps me pretty de-motivated to do so. Just be glad 1943 isn't all you're not getting.
