Skyrim 1.2 patch adds resistance bugs

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim just received its 1.2 update, but some bugs still remain, and a few new ones seem to have popped up as well.

The notoriously buggy launch of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was mended somewhat by the 1.2 patch, but reports from users claim that the patch introduced new glitches to the game. Most prevalent seems to be a bug with resistance effects, doling out full damage to special attacks no matter what protection you have.

A thread on the Bethesda forum (via Eurogamer) summarizes the common complaints post-1.2. In addition to the resistance effects, users claim that platform specific bugs like frame-rate issues and texture loading still persist. If you can find some humor in the situation, the forums also have multiple reports of dragons flying backwards.

Bethesda noted when announcing the patches that it wouldn't squash every bug, and the release on Monday promised that the company would keep an eye on forums for more reports.

      Thank you for being one of, if not the only, gaming "news" site that is actually covering this.
      There are even more, and deeper, issues with this game than the 1.2 patch.
      Hopefully someone will delve into and report on them as well.

      Notoriously buggy? Compared to previous Bethesda games, this is a Blizzard-esque release.

        My little brother got all the way throu the thieves guild only to have the ceremony bug out and not complete. He spent about 20 hours on this and is pretty upset. Doesn't seem like a big deal as its not part of the main story line, but to spend almost an entire real life day on something to not be able to finish it is upsetting.

          I've had a few little scripted things like that bug out on me, too.. but since the game autosaves every time you walk through a door, I just load the most recent save and try again until it works. Hardly a big deal.

        Some of the criticisms the haters (and there are a few) have of the game feel so unfair. It's basically the only game of its class that does open-world games like this with both this level of depth and size. The only games I think that come close to it in terms of interlocking systems and sheer variety of gameplay are the (later) Assassin's Creed games and Red Dead Redemption, and they're sorely lacking in the character creation/development aspect.

        A lot of the biggest haters seem to be people who've been content with sitting in their (various) shrinking and stagnant niche(s), who I guess are upset that the game is, in its awesomeness, encroaching on the last vestiges of that niche. This game really is the second coming and practically the true rebirth of the open-world RPG that some folks have been pining for the better part of a decade (or more). I actually feel sad for the people who are unable to see that.

        Only bug I have really had was with Lydia, she would randomly show up and at times ignore battles and such so eventually I just gave up and let her die. I mean how many damn times can you block the doorway?

        Yeah me too, my experience with skyrim has been pretty bug free so far, the only bug i've seen really are the frequent wolf and deer that are in the sky.
        Ah and i don't know if its a bug or intentional but its driven me nuts, the fact that when in 1st person you don't cast any shadow.

        No real bugs here, either. Except for one that pissed me off. I was fighting some anomalies and they attacked my invincible horse. Somehow Shadowmere vanished. No body or anything, just gone. Considering it was taking on dragons and shit before, being killed by some anomalies seems strange when they barely do any damage to me.

        I think I'm going to cheat and respawn Shadowmere again or something. I miss my badass horse :(

          I stole a horse, rode him a few feet then jumped off, then it zoomed off as if had been hit by a giant but it just flew horizontally until it hit a slope then just went skyward. Stupid horse.

        Same here, or at least nothing game-breaking. I've had a few bugs that LOOKED to be game breaking, but every time that happened I would just leave the area and come back and it'd always be fixed.

        I've had a few bugs I had to work around. I had to manually unpack some speech files for an NPC to work again, noclip through puzzle doors that wouldn't open even if the puzzle was correct. On a console these would have been show stoppers, but on a PC, so far, everything I've encountered had a work around in the skyrim wiki.

        But the best bug I had was when you're spawned into an area that is supposed to have no enemies. you have no weapons, no gear, no means to attack anything, and one character there you're supposed to talk to. A random dragon encounter occured, and I was stuck there, since the aggro'd character I was supposed to be talking to was too busy killing a dragon without having any weapons, and the dragon was busy killing something that could not die.

        only had 2 bugged out quests in ~60 hours of play. Thank god I'm playing the PC version where I can move the quest forward with a command line when necessary!

        Only bugs I've seen are some graphics won't show up, like spiderwebs or those lights coming from a celing during the mirror quest.

      In 100+ hours, i got stuck in a door once, in hour 3. I saw surprisingly few bugs, finished it on 360.

      i've had almost zero bugs in a shitload of playtime on the 360. think i'll skip this patch.

      Totally skipping this patch. I'll keep my muddy textures on 360, they don't really hurt gameplay like this new stuff does.

      2 crashes in 110 hours on 360. Only glitch I've noticed is that the Jarl of Solitude disappeared after I sieged the place with the Stormcloaks.. Which means I can't buy the house there. :( But since that character is retired, no big deal.

      Well, this kinda blows for my nord warrior as far as the resists are concerned. My fully leveled destruction mage on the other hand... "None can withstand my power!!! Muahahahahaha!"

      Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

      I actually closed Steam last night because it was acting weird but never restarted it. Saw news about bugs in the patch and decided to start steam in offline mode to avoid the Skyrim patch for the time being. So I physically disconnected my Ethernet cord from my computer, started steam, clicked on "Start in Offline Mode," and now it can't go into offline mode!

      FUCK YOU STEAM.

      I guess there's only one option now.

      What I really do not understand is why they would still push the updates out on the PC & 360 today after hearing all this shit yesterday from PS3 users instead of going back for more testing.

      A delay wouldn't have killed anyone, now many players have more problems then before and can't easily revert to the way it was.

      Think this will be hotfixed on PC or will we have to wait a week or two for the next round of console approved updates before it's fixed?

        That said, skyrim is better than morrowind and oblivion (can we say broken at launch) but thats not saying much

      So apparently you can't change the update setting for a game if Steam is in offline mode. What the fuck.

        Wouldn't matter if you did, it doesn't work. I set steam to not download updates for skyrim last night after hearing word of these issues.. it updated anyway. The "do not automatically update" setting is non-functional.
