Rumor: Dante's Inferno sequel on the way

Dante's Inferno 2 may be in the works, according to a none-too-subtle hint dropped by a writer who says he is attached to the project.

Dante's Inferno may be getting a sequel from Visceral Games, according to a writer who seems to be attached to the project. Joshua Rubin has Assassin's Creed 2 in his list of credits, and has now dropped incredibly obvious clues that he's worked on a Dante's Inferno sequel.

Rubin's bio page (via Joystiq) mentions being "the sole writer for a Major Unannounced Sequel from Visceral Studios at EA Games." Lest you think he might be referring to the Dead Space series, he then says "a hint" and links to the Super Bowl trailer for Dante's Inferno. You're really stretching the definition of the word "hint," Joshua.

Dante's Inferno was a loose adaptation of the epic poem. It took a story that bored you in high school literature classes and spiced it up a bit with more swords and Lucifer-battling. Of course, it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, because the Prince of Darkness is tricky like that.

EA and Visceral haven't officially announced a sequel, so this is in the rumor camp for now. Shacknews has contacted EA, and will update as more information becomes available.

Only played the demo, but I liked the fighting style and skill trees enough to put it on my "to play" list.

Recently finished DI and really enjoyed it. Look forward to number 2 if they can fix some small issues from the first one.

First couple hours were great, too bad they gave up halfway through.

This could be hit or miss.

So true - first half was like a Wayne Barlowe disneyland ride and I loved it. Shit went to hell on the Lust level and never managed to bounce back (and the end boss was pretty lame).

Maybe if they bring Barlowe back and let him do exactly what he wants this time without toning shit down, it'd be ok.

Maybe they'll finish this one properly. The first one had tons of potential, and then they threw the last half of the game in the shitter. The combat system was awesome fun,

Well, since they never did a proper rendition of Dante Alighieri's 'Inferno' - you'd likely have to wait for that first.
