Batman: Arkham City's PC launch seems to have been marred by some DirectX 11 issues that have left the game unplayable, Steam forum users have reported.

According to some users, enabling DirectX 11 features turns Batman's latest adventure into a frame rate nightmare. HardOCP examined the issues with both the NVidia GTX 580 and AMD Radeon HD 6970, noting that "both video cards the game stuttered and paused in exactly the same places, indicating it is more of a game issue with DX11."

In response to the claims, a post on the game's official forum acknowledges the problems and promises a fix is in the works. "We're working on a title update to address this matter and expect to make it available in the near future," the post reveals.

The same post outlines how to disable DirectX 11 in favor of DirectX 9 (listed below), which does not seem to be suffering any issues.

Games for Windows Live

Start > All Programs > Games > Right click on Batman: Arkham City and select Launcher > Settings

1. Open the Start Menu

2. Select All Programs and then the Games folder

3. Right click on Batman: Arkham City and select Launcher

4. Choose Settings then click on the arrow next to DX options to change

    Steam:

Launch Steam Client > Library > Right click on Batman: Arkham City > Configure PC Options

    1. Open Steam

    2. Select Library

    3. Right click on Batman: Arkham City and select Configure PC Options

    4. Choose Settings then click on the arrow next to DX options to change

So the feature (DirectX 11) that convinced me to buy the game on PC is broken and probably never worked. Cool. Glad they took that extra 6 weeks to make the PC version awesome.

Remember back when the PC game news wasn't copied and pasted from RPS?

This news came out during the Thanksgiving break. No one was in the office managing the feeds. Since this site focuses on PC content, we thought it important to acknowledge this news. Otherwise, we would be questioned about ignoring it.

Xav has a fair point - the Shack IS the real "Kobayashi Maru." No doubt about it.

They've already pilloried Garnett for his lack of a real gaming PC, so who is next.

I wish they would acknowledge the audio stuttering on cutscenes in DX9. I can't play the game because of it....
