Rumor: Ubisoft survey explores future Assassin's Creed locations

A survey may hint at future settings for the Assassin's Creed franchise.

Arguably more iconic than Desmond and his various assassin counterparts are the exotic locales featured in the Assassin's Creed series. Now that Assassin's Creed Revelations has wrapped up, we can all start considering what the future holds for the franchise. A purported survey may hint at several possible upcoming locations and time periods.

The survey from Empire State Gamer (via PSU) hints at eight settings:

  • The violent conflicts of the Imperial Dynasties in Medieval China

  • The advent of the mighty British Empire during Victorian England

  • The culmination of the Pharaoh Reign in Ancient Egypt

  • The invasion of the Americas by the Spanish Conquistadors

  • The confrontation between British colonists and native Americans during The American Revolution

  • The overthrow of the Tsar Empire by the Communists during the Russian Revolution

  • The Warlord Battles in Feudal Japan

  • The rise of Cesar's Empire in Ancient Rome

It's worth noting that Assassin's Creed 3 is rumored to be set in Ancient Egypt. Since the next Assassin's Creed is expected in 2012, this survey is likely for "one of the next" Assassin's Creed titles, beyond next year's iteration.

If the survey is legitimate, remember that surveys like this are merely to gauge interest, and not necessarily a sign of impending plans. Shacknews has contacted Ubisoft, but has not received a response as of time of publishing.

well they better. the ending of revelations was... lacking any revelations. single player seemed a little shorter and the goddamn multiplayer seemed like it got a huge amount of attention. ugh.

Yeah, no kidding. While I enjoyed the game, the main plot was way too short and there weren't enough...you know, what's that word? ....Revelations, I think.

agreed. fun game, lots of the same good shit, but the single player intensity wasn't there. and no revelations at the end was kinda a head scratcher.

there was a lot of purpose and drive in the prior titles, lots of overarching drama.

and no one will play a title based on desmond I can promise you that. he's a douchey space cadet now, and that's annoying.

They've basically forced you to buy the next game (whatever it's called) to know the conclusion.

I do appreciate that we know how both Altair's and Ezio's purpose to the overall cause is concluded completely, and with Ezio rationalizing he is just a vessel for the message to Desmond in the future. But I really would have liked to seen more of what happened directly after the end of Brotherhood.

The basic plot, on the larger scale:

Desmond, after being coerce to kill his gf at the end of AssBro, finds himself still connected to the Animus, and meets the residual image of Subject 16 (the one that's left clues in the past for him). S16 encourages Desmond to keep exploring Ezio's memories as there's still more to see. Meanwhile, we know that in the real world that the other Assassin's are smuggling Desmond and the Animus back into the US with the help of Desmond's father.

As Ezio, he travels to the original Assassin's castle that Altair had ruled, looking to open a passage that he has been lead to believe contains more Assassin's wisdom. Ezio finds that there's five keys hidden in Constantinople that will open the door, but the Templars are already there, trying to turn the Sultan against them. blah blah blah a lot of assassination stuff happens, but the short answer is that Ezio gathers the 5 keys, and stops the assassinations, making sure that the Sultan puts into power a figure that is against the Templar cause of trying to unit humanity as one.

During all this we get memories of Altair, struggling with a brief power upset from within due to the Apple of Eden. He goes into exile and then comes back to retake control of the Guild. blah blah blah he grows old and prepares the chamber with the keys, giving them to Marco Polo's father to hide in Constantinople. As his last act, he enters this chamber along, with a final key, hides the Apple in a hidden cache, and then sits down and eventually dies.

Back to the castle, Ezio opens the passage. He finds Altair's body and the key, and then is surprised to find the Apple - this is apparently a second Apple from the one he hid in Rome. He decides to leave that there and then addresses "Desmond", knowing he but a vessel for the ancient's message, and realizes his role in this plot is done. We then get a message from one of the ancient calling themselves Zeus, who shows that ones they and humans lived together in an advanced society destroyed ; they had created several underground temples to collect information to a central point in what we know as New England (it seems). The society was wiped out by a massive solar flare, leaving but few of both races alive; from that, the ancients created the artifacts to prevent this disaster in the future.

By this point, Desmond finally comes out of his unconscious state (wiping out Subject 16), and having recall the visions that Zeus showed him, tells the others he knows what he has to do. CREDITS.
