Holiday Guide 2011: Recap

Holiday wish lists can change depending on who is buying you that "must have" item. The Shacknews staff have compiled their list with that in mind. In case you missed it yesterday, here's a recap of what the Shacknews editors want to see under their tree.

It's the question that can slam the brakes on the holiday spirit; it stopped poor Ralphie dead in his tracks in that fateful moment when he finally got to Santa. "What do you want for Christmas?" So, to help make this the hap-hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap danced with Danny Kaye, the Shacknews editors present some of our answers for this holiday season to help you be ready for when you get put on the spot during the 2011 Holiday Season.

In case you missed it yesterday, here's a quick recap of our holiday guide.

As you can see from our lists, it's not always games that come to mind at this time of year. In the comments below, tell us what you're asking for this holiday season.

  • Garnett's list features a racing wheel, headset, and pre-orders

  • Xav's list was themed, featuring essentials he uses to do his job as well as books for his Kindle Fire and The Witcher 2

  • Andrew's list included a new television, Amazon's new tablet, and the newest PS3 peripheral

  • Alice's list asked for a Trine 2 pre-order, a book on the history of video games, and Skyrim

  • Steve's list featured a Batman graphic novel, board game expansion, Skyrim, and Xbox Live and PSN cards

  • Jeff's list included Skyrim, an iPad 2, and for friends and family to buy a co-op game for themselves

Shack Staff stories are a collective effort with multiple staff members contributing. Many of our lists often involve entires from several editors, and our weekly Shack Chat is something we all contribute to as a group.

I'm getting Skyrim and Mario Kart 7 for Christmas I think. I like to get something that I desperately want to play to give me something to look forward to...so I pick one game out that isn't a multiplayer game (because those generally are better to pick up on release) that I want to play RIGHT NOW...and I DON'T pick it up so I can then get it for Christmas. Its a great for of delayed gratification and it makes Christmas that much better (still not as good as when I was a kid...but still it makes it awesome...plus I have family members who have little kids and seeing them enjoy Christmas adds a whole new dimension to it...and its fun to shop for them for Christmas now).

I also pick some other stuff that I'd really like to have right now and I don't get those things either for myself...which makes it easier for loved ones shopping for me to get something (I hate shopping for someone who buys EVERYTHING they want and you can't figure out what the hell to get them...so I try not to do that around this time of year...I only buy the stuff I need to play right now...and any Zelda game...because for me...playing through a Zelda game is as much Christmas as putting up the Tree and decorations...its a tradition for me...just like playing DOOM around Halloween).
