Virtual video game vendor Good Old Games' rummage around in the back catalog of Electronic Arts continues to turn up treasure, today producing Origin Systems' Crusader: No Regret. The top-down tactical shooter is sequel to Crusader: No Remorse, which combat-rolled onto GOG in June. Expect more infiltration, more destructible environments, and more gruesome death animations.

Set a mere 46 hours after No Remorse, No Regret takes the series in a more action-y direction, including removing the weapon limit. There are also new ways to horrifically kill the forces of naughty mega-corporation the World Economic Consortium, and their office staff too, if you fancy.

Sadly, Origin only made two Crusader games, though several more were once planned. Fan site Echo Sector has design documents and scripts for some, if you're curious.

You can buy Crusader: No Regret now on GOG for $5.99. Shack sister site Mobygames has more information on it, too.

Man I dug these games. I hesitate sometimes wondering how messed up they might get but I'd really like to see the series return in a modern game.

You really only need three qualities for a new Crusader game:

        1) Wanton destruction and bloodletting.
        2) Combat-based puzzles.
        3) The ability to roll from side-to-side.

        Done!

In terms of the technicals, GoG updates them so that they support Windows 7. As to gameplay being broken, no idea.

I could see it coming out quite similar to the new Syndicate.

These were some of my favourite games of all time. Back when Moonbase Commander and I were too uncoordinated to handle the movement and shooting ourselves, we would play this game, each controlling a different aspect of the Silencer.

Hellllllllllllllllllllllllllll yes. Now I just have to figure out how to configure the controls so I don't want to hang myself whilst enjoying my nostalgia trip.

These games are some of the best pure action gaming ever. If you have not played them, you need to nut up and get past the unorthodox control scheme and play at least one of them. I have such memories of these games. I thank PC gamer demo disks for introducing me to so many wonderful games, and Crusader is one of my most fondly fondled.
