Before Naughty Dog went on to create the Uncharted series for PlayStation 3, it worked on the Jak & Daxter franchise. While the characters are a bit furrier than Nathan Drake and company, it's interesting to discover similarities between the two series.

The Jak & Daxter series is the next Sony franchise to get the HD collection treatment. Coming in February, the Jak and Daxter Collection includes Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, and Jak 3.

The remaster is being handled by Mass Media whose eclectic portfolio includes Tetris Evolution and Starcraft 64. The updated releases will feature 720p resolution, "crisper visuals," "smoother gameplay animation," and support for full stereoscopic 3D. Each game features the now-requisite trophy support.

Whereas previous PS2 re-releases, such as the God of War Origins Collection, and the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, featured additional video content on-disc, it appears the Jak & Daxter Collection will not. "Nothing in terms of the videos," Sony's Eric Monacelli said on the PlayStation.Blog.

While behind-the-scenes videos may not be included with this collection, eager fans are hopeful that the new collection will signal the arrival of a new Jak & Daxter game. The Sly Collection, for example, contained a hidden trailer for Sly 4, now known as Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. Trophy hunters will certainly want to Platinum the Jak collection once it arrives in February.
