CD Projekt developing five multi-platform games, including new IP
by Jeff Mattas, Nov 18, 2011 4:45pm PSTPolish developer CD Projekt RED, makers of this year's excellent RPG The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, will apparently have a pretty full workload for the foreseeable future. During a livestream of the developer's recent Investor's Day, the developer revealed that it's working on a number of new games, including The Witcher 2's Xbox 360 version, two more "AAA+" titles, as well as three smaller games, in the meantime.
Translated on community forum NeoGaf (via Joystiq), the proceedings revealed that the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 is on track for an early 2012 release, and "has been classified as a AAA title with release date set for Q1 of 2012 (probably end of February)."
While light on specifics, CD Projekt also announced that they have two more projects in the works for 2014 and 2015 that they also classify as "AAA+." One of those "AAA+" projects will be based on a new intellectual property, though the developer didn't say what that might be. That aside, given CD Projekt's estimated "AAA" development window of 3-5 years, it's reasonable to assume that development of at least one of these new games is already underway.
All of the new projects are planned as multi-platform releases, and CD Projekt will continue to focus on developing the proprietary RED Engine and its development tools. While the upcoming games' supported platforms haven't been disclosed, we do know that the developer is using the RED Engine for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of The Witcher 2.
CD Projekt has promised more information about the new titles soon.
