Vampire Saving

A forum post from a couple of days ago from Nihilistic programmer Rob Huebner reveils that Nihilistic is "painfully aware of the comments" on not having the option to save any time you'd like. He says its gonna take some time to fix that. Thanks LeftE.

Who cares, I have to say I am impressed with Rob. You see that, he isn't going to milk people alongm, he strait out said it will take some time to implement but he's doing it. Name the last company that said it will take some time to implement something rather than we'll immediately rrelease patch vx.xx and then 3 months later, patch vx.xv is on the way followed by another post a few months later with patch x.xz is almost done, etc... Seems like someone that accepts his limitations and works with them.

QuickSave. Move a few feet, pick up ammo. QuickSave. Kill a baddie then quicksave just in case there's more. Kill three more baddies, pick up more ammo, move in front of a new door. QuickSave. Open door and get splattered by the big boss. Reload. Try again. Move an inch, hide behind a pillar with full health... QuickSave... :)

I love the game. I didn't think I would. The gamesave is perfect. The game actually is challenging- not this "move three steps-save, move three steps-save, move three steps-save..." crap. To those whining about the save, most of you probably haven't played many old school games (back in the NES days) when they were challenging. Players these days are babies- if a game is too difficult or if you don't like one little thing, you return it. I remember playing the SAME fricking level over 200 times in Bionic Commando (the fire level) until I beat it. That was a REAL sense of accomplishment.

I think the save-game feature is perfect the way that it is. If you have the ability to save the game every minute, where's the challenge? I have put over 25 game-hours into Vampire, and saving is simple. Any time you see LOADING, you're saved.

It makes the game more realistic. If they change it to cater to whiners, it will show they have no backbone to stand behind their original idea.

It's actually not that big a deal. The game autosaves whenever you enter a new area, and since each area is fairly small.. if you do die, it only takes a minute or two to get back to where you were.. if that. The system they use works quite well.. but apparently some people don't appreciate not having their precious save-every-10-seconds ability ;)

Hey, I felt the same way about Daikatana. Game autosaves with each area change and I just saved every time I found more than three save gems, occasionally dropping lower when I felt the need. Never had a problem, myself.

The problem is, that most people DO hate it. And this developer obviously is interested in feedback from his customers. That is where my comment came from.
