Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector's Edition includes bonus character and mission

The Mass Effect 3 collector's edition is promising to include an exclusive character and mission, making the $80 primo pack a must-buy for completionists.

The requisite Mass Effect 3 collector's edition has just gotten the tiniest bit bigger. A new video highlights the contents of the upcoming $80 bundle: a metal case featuring both male and female versions of Commander Shepard, a 70-page hardbound art book, a limited edition comic by Dark Horse, a fabric N7 patch, and a 4x6 lithographic print. The digital bonuses include four additional weapons, the Squadmate Alternate Outfit Pack, a digital N7 hoodie for Shepard to wear on the Normandy, and a digital soundtrack. Perhaps the most novel addition of all: a robotic dog for you to play with while on board the Normandy. But, there's another bit of content BioWare's adding for the collection: a new character and mission. A GameStop promotional video ends with a tease for a "bonus character & mission," but notes that it's "classified." You can see a slight silhouette in the background--perhaps internet sleuths can figure this out? For Mass Effect completionists, the inclusion of an extra character and mission in the special edition nearly guarantees a purchase. We've contacted EA to find out if the publisher intends on offering the additional character as standalone DLC.

Finally, PC Gamer did a frame-by-frame analysis of the promotional video and discovered one as-of-yet unannounced character making a return for Mass Effect 3.

Jack returns

Mass Effect 3 will be available on March 6, 2012.

They need to make it where every single mission and every single character is a paid download. And the ending is a paid download, too.

You want to level up? That will be $5 per level. You "can" beat the game with a level 1 character, just not without cheating...but it also costs an additional $2 per save point. Oh, and you want to have sound effects, that's additional. Epic music? Another $15. $20 per squadmate unless you want to try and solo the game without any. Argh!

I'll just wait until a year or two after it's released, get it on sale from Steam for $20 with all of the DLC's, and be good. I don't care for the multiplayer component of this game anyways, I'm the damn hero, and it's meant to be a single player game.

No. Was there some event in the past that showed Bioware's integrity? Also, it wasn't until they were part of EA that they didn't release the console version of a multiplatform game before the PC version (MDK2, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect vs DA:O, ME2, DA2), so it's not like they were super PC advocates until evil EA corrupted them.

Kasumi was DLC. You're thinking Zaeed.

        • reply
          November 18, 2011 11:30 AM

You got Zaeed with the regular edition (normal price), but you had to pay extra for Kasumi, which I am equating to paying extra for the CE and getting a character for your money.

          • reply
            November 18, 2011 11:50 AM

well, for one thing Kasumi was offered in unlimited supply and was available for purchase after you decided whether or not you liked the game/wanted her/etc.

this character requires you to make a decision before you purchase at all, to pay a $20 premium rather than a $7 premium, and is limited by the artificial scarcity of selling it physically rather than digitally

Dunno about you guys, but I found ME2's DLC to be fairly disappointing overall. Unless some stellar reviews come out, I have no desire to purchase ME3 DLC of any kind.

Not to mention the immense hassle it was getting the PC DLC onto my computer with their horrible purchasing system.

My main gripe with them was the linearity. Not that the game wasn't different, but I was expecting at least a bt more variation on them, specially for the price.
