Skyrim patches on the way, Bethesda asks for patience

Bethesda PR VP Pete Hines has responded to Skyrim players on Twitter, saying the team is working on patches for all platforms and asking for patience.

Bethesda is (unsurprisingly) working on patches for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on all platforms. In the meantime, PR VP Pete Hines has directed fans on how to report bugs through the proper channels, and asked for "a little time" as they work to correct the problems.

"Patches/updates take a little time. We can't turn it around quite that fast. It's been three days. Calm down. We're working on it," Bethesda's Pete Hines assured fans.

In a series of posts on Twitter (via Eurogamer), Hines tells fans that using the official contact form is better than contacting him directly. To another inquiry, he said the team is working on patches to fix "any bugs and perf issues we can," but warns that it might not be comprehensive. "We will fix as much as we can for your platform," he said. "I don't know if it will fix 'your' bug. Takes a while to test/fix/regress. Hang in there."

So far the most publicized glitch is on the Xbox 360, where installing the game actually results in lower quality textures. Bethesda had previously said it was working on a patch to address that bug, but PS3 and PC owners are apparently having their own texture and freezing issues as well. No time-frame was given for the patches.

Certification doesn't mean fully testing a game. They check to make sure the game meets a standard set of criteria, and obviously checking that the textures are the correct resolution when installed from the hard drive is not going to be one of those criteria.

I'm not arguing semantics at all. He said it shouldn't have been let through certification, when this has absolutely nothing to do with certification.

Should it have been picked up in QA? possibly. But I've run the game from both the DVD and the HDD, and I didn't notice the problem. I even uninstalled after learning that the textures are blurrier when running off the HDD, and I still don't see a big difference. I doubt some MS tester running through the quests shit is going to notice either.

This whole thing is nerd rage over nothing.

It's not even obvious to a human if you don't know what the textures are actually supposed to look like. I played 60 hours of it without realizing something was broken -- it just looked like a few textures here and there were uglier than you would expect from a modern game.

My post on the forums regarding multiscreen support or lack thereof got pretty big. Someone posted a sort of fix for the HUD but it's like running an external app.

Someone also posted an email response from Bethesda saying that multimonitor, Eyefinity, and nVidia surround/3D was not supported so they had no solutions and to play the game at normal settings. It sucks that the PC version was basically a port with very minor attention given to it. A guy on WSGF in one day was able to make a damn fix which isn't ideal but it works.

Posting to note that Skyrim is infinitely more stable/playable than Oblivion or Fallout 3 were at launch.

Over the last 30 hours of play, I've had maybe two or three software-related crashes. To this day, I have difficulties playing Oblivion without crashing for more than an hour or two. Yes, it's (sort of) heavily modded, but it's also had years of patches, both official and unofficial. I have also inspected every single one of my mods for compatibility issues and have sussed my load order out as fully as I can.

Quite frankly, Oblivion's engine is a poorly coded pile of shit. Skyrim has, thus far, proven itself to be a more than able successor.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I am shocked - SHOCKED - that a Bethesda game can actually be this stable. Their games have, in my mind, been synonymous with "stable as an earthquake or volcanic eruption", so Skyrim has certainly been a very pleasant surprise for me.

That being said, patches are good. But a construction set would be BETTER. Still waiting!

        - My physics on pc are broken. Every other building I enter If I open a door or chest everything in the room explods flying around.

        - Mouse lag (had to fix through ini)

        - Crossfire Support bugged (partly amd to blame)

        - Key binds completely unilaterally broken

        - mouse y-axis scales with FPS, makes game semi unplayable at times

games STABLE for me, but really annoying to play.

Funny, I forgot about some of those.

After fixing the mouse lag/y-axis weirdness (still scales with FPS, as mentioned, which IS stupid and annoying) and fixing the SLI with the Nvidia beta drivers, I haven't really had too many problems. Granted, the UI is absolutely ridiculous on the PC, but I've also managed to get used to navigating it with the keyboard.

Fortunately, I'm not left-handed, so the key binding issues haven't shown up for me. And for whatever reason, I've not experienced those physics bugs. Very curious, that. Better send in a bug report, could be hardware- or driver-related...

Running D3DOverrider to force triple buffered vsync fixed my mouse lag and y-axis scaling with the framerate. With the ini edits to disable acceleration and match the yscale to match the x it's about as good as it can be. At least there's no terrible negative accel like BF3.

Guys the controls can be fixed easily, see this thread:

      http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2227329

By following these steps i have disabled v sync and there is no lag at all, and vertical / horizontal sensitivity is the same (i used 0.0100 as my values for this). There is also no sensitivity issue relating to fps because my fps is at a constant 60, even with vsync off. I have yet to notice any tearing - were it not for the lack of mouse lag i would think that vsync was on :)

Only issues now are with the key remapping and key-related UI elements.

The next game to come out from Bethesda will most likely be on next gen consoles, which will basically require better scaling for the PC version to even run than their current engine appears capable of. It will also probably be a DX 12 game.

I can get back in double the double alt tab trick, but sometimes it screws up my graphics so auras (candle light, mist from rivers) turns into dots or strange particles which forces me to restart. At least I can save before but still.

I get this also. Certain particles seem to disappear, so for example a dragon's fire breath isn't rendered.

My wife on the PS3 gained a two and a half levels before she realized it. When she did level she had two perks and two stat prompts.

You keep getting the experience, at least on the PC. The bar wont update, but after you finally pick to level up the bar will show the additional experience you accrued.

That bug with random dead dragons dropping out of thin air with full skin intact (I never touched them) is captured in ss form! http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/612716583508283121/48152B0C5D4DD083B20F7C7FF53B9844A0CD7D1A/

I ran into the shop right next to this location, there were no dragons at the time. After dumping my loot, I came out and this fell out of thin air right in front of me. Lootable with no items, no damage on body either from attacks.

Few of my issues on PC:
      • Store inventory bug. Glitch with clicking on items. Crash follows on the next click.
      • Attempting to leave the Enchanter. Sometimes keyboard/mouse locks up until you hit escape once or twice.
      • Alt-tabbing back into the game (as at0micgarden mentioned)

Only getting trapped in the environment once - for all the mountaineering I've done is pretty impressive.

i only ran into one significant glitch so far. Companions quest got stuck and quest giver wouldnt respond. Left them there in the same positions for a long time, then came back and the same. Put a couple arrows in the quest giver and he got up to attack, put away the bow and he backed down, talked to him and quest could advance.

it doesn't look like it fixed it anyway. think they are just giving me random assignments. gonna have to use the console or wait. since I dont care about achievements, console it is.

I had to follow a quest giver in doors. I saved it right when he was transitioning. Now I look at the local map of the place and the quest giver is wayyyyyy off the map.

Had an issue as well with Farkas sending me to some bandit camp upon which I stumbled earler and already cleared. Even after resurrecting the bandit chief via console and killing him again did not update the quest.

Yeah, I noticed this too. It bothers me enough that I sold off my ebony helmet. It was pretty good, stat-wise, I just couldn't stand to look at my companion when she was wearing it.

I hate to admit this, but I have been so hopelessly addicted to this game the crashing is the only thing that makes to turn it off and get my homework done/go eat/live my life. Thanks for the broken game Bethesda!

The crashes are almost the only times I will look at a clock. And without them I would be dead now due to lack of sleep, or alternatively, fired for not showing up for work this week.

There's a memory leak. If I fast travel too much my framerate drops pretty bad. Enough to hurt my eyes. That's when it's time to turn off the game and perhaps eat or drink fluids.

Just crashed again. In magic caverns. Cast spell on glowing wall. It breaks into pieces and the game freezes.

Other crashes are periodic. Just kicks me out of game. Have a quad core computer, 8 gig o memory, terra byte hard drive, and a requisite video card which is above the one mentioned as a requirement. Windows 7 64 bit.
