EA rep explains company president spoke 'broadly' in promising Battlefield 4

EA president Frank Gibeau was quoted as revealing the fate of the Battlefield franchise, and EA responds to our questions.

EA president Frank Gibeau has learned that it doesn't matter where you say something, it will find its way onto Twitter. Speaking at the University of Southern California yesterday, Gibeau reportedly stated, "There is going to be a Battlefield 4," and attendees took the news to social media.

Of course, the continuation of the franchise is an inevitability; however, what does the quote mean for the fate of the Bad Company series--the spin-off from the original Battlefield franchise?

An EA representative told Shacknews, "Frank was speaking broadly about the Battlefield brand -- a brand that EA is deeply passionate about and a fan community that EA is committed to."

In only its first week, Battlefield 3 has sold five million copies--this according to internal estimates at Electronic Arts.

Though the Battlefield series isn't known as an annual affair, EA could trade off both the classic Battlefield series and the Bad Company spin-off series to launch a new title franchise annually. Also competing for attention is EA's Medal of Honor series, which was teased on inserts included in Battlefield 3.

I've played BF3 for maybe two hours and it's just not the same. I mean, most of the Conquest maps should not be conquest at all!

As a hardcore BF2 vet I'll tell you: Give it a fair chance. Play only the good maps (caspian, canals, kharg, firestorm) and get to know the game, it's really incredible once you get used to it.

At time, it's extremely intense, even more than BF2. Can't say I miss certain BF2 features though, but hey.

2 hours just isn't even giving it a remotely decent chance. Just because you don't know the maps doesn't mean it's not good.

As the bugs are getting ironed out BF3 is becoming better and better to play. Play it with a few mates and it's amazing.

Or you could just wait for the Karkand DLC.

This reminds me of Jake in Idle Thumbs 8, back when a Massive announced a deal signed with Activision Blizzard ( http://www.shacknews.com/article/56197/massive-expands-with-blizzard-activision ), and news slipped out of new Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, and Tony Hawk titles.

Jake: [imitating an Activision executive after hearing the leak] "Don't tell anyone we're making annual sequels to our key franchises! Our new corporate strategy; don't tell them that we're actually doing it!"

I stink at BF3. I've died like 10 times after only killing 2 people. Once was luck.. other was actually a solid shot but I died literally like 2 seconds after (got sniped).

Level up a few times and you will start to get the hang of it. There is a learning curve for sure.

BF3 (as was BC2) takes quite a bit of getting use to, particularly if you're coming from COD style gameplay. Give it time, and each time you'll get better and better.

          Agree!
COD is a totally arcade shooter and BF3 has more of a tactical shooter
