Zelda producer talks about Link to the Past in 3D
by Andrew Yoon, Nov 09, 2011 10:30pm PSTOcarina of Time may be one of the most beloved of all Zelda games, but its SNES predecessor, A Link to the Past, garners nearly as much fanfare. The recent 3DS re-release of the N64 classic has many expecting a Majora's Mask follow-up, but Nintendo may have other plans in mind.
"Mr. Miyamoto himself has been talking recently about going back to the 2D Zelda games," producer Eiji Aonuma said.
"In particular the ones that were designed with multiple levels to the world like A Link to the Past, and taking those 2D graphics and recreating them in 3D so that you could get a sense for the depth of those worlds," Aonuma told GamesRadar. "That's something that might be interesting to do, so I would say there might be a possibility of something like that in the future."
A new Zelda game for the 3DS is an inevitability, given the franchise's continued success. However, what is Aonuma hinting at? Could A Link to the Past be receiving a 3DS remake, or could he be talking about an entirely new 2D game, rendered in three dimensions on the 3DS screen? A rumor last week suggested that Nintendo is more interested in making a new game for the 3DS than making yet another re-release.
