To honor his late friend, a gentleman named Carlo and the team at Gearbox Software have teamed up to immortalize Borderlands fan Michael John Mamaril as an NPC in the upcoming sequel.

The idea came to Carlo after his friend passed away due to cancer at the young age of 22. As both were "huge Borderlands fans," Carlos requested that Claptrap--the hilarious robot from the game--eulogize his friend. Gearbox agreed and promised so much more.

To honor him in their own way, developer Gearbox Software promised to insert Michael into Borderlands 2. The eulogy, which you can hear at Destructoid, is both humorous and heartfelt.

"The problem with reality is that bad things can happen to good people," Claptrap voice actor David Eddings said in character, before delivering a thank you to Carlo for allowing Gearbox to be a part of celebrating Michael's life.

It's a generous act to celebrate a young man's life, solidifying the company's dedication to its community.

Borderlands was rubbish. Completely and utterly repetitive. The guns you find get more powerful, but then so does the enemy. There is no satisfaction. And the graphics look like paper thin cartoon styles. But each to his own I guess...

Precisely! I enjoyed the whole thing maybe except the end. Too few bosses.

thankfully, the odds of you being recognized in a game, borderlands or otherwise, has become very very low :D
