Battlefield 3 has successfully deployed into five million homes worldwide in its first week, EA has announced. According to the publishing giant's "internal estimates," its sell-through of units to actual customers makes DICE's latest title "the fastest-selling game in EA's history."

In its second fiscal quarter results, EA estimated good fortunes for Battlefield 3 following "nearly" three million pre-orders for the shooter.

"Battlefield 3 fans executed 73M savior kills, 48M revives and destroyed 67M vehicles," a press release revealing the internal estimate noted.

Earlier today, DICE's general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson wrote a lengthy blog post thanking Battlefield 3 players for their support, as well as promising the development team at DICE is taking steps to correct some of the game's online-related issues.

I didn't get Blops but I bought every single one since the very first until then. I just kinda stopped noticing. They come out so frequently, a new one being released doesn't feel like an event, it's more like a constant background noise.

My point was that while I have seen BF3 advertised for weeks and weeks at every single opportunity (on billboards, at the cinema, on TV, down the sides and across the top of almost every website I can think of, in magazine, in news articles, in TV shows etc) I've yet to see a single piece of advertising for MW3 other than a couple of trailers and of those trailers I don't remember the date as I saw them a couple of weeks ago.

On top of that I've barely seen anyone talk about it in the chatty. I just assumed it would be out closer to Christmas. It seems really underhyped compared to all the previous entries and is eclipsed by the huge marketing campaigns of BF3 and to a slightly lesser extent Batman, Uncharted, and Skyrim.

It does make a difference to me, I'll say that. It didn't stop me from enduring the whole Origin thing, but honestly I'd rather not have had to fuck with it. SWTOR is the only other game I'll ever play on Origin, probably.

yea this is my point, if people want to get a game, they'll get it regardless of the delivery/login method. I'd rather launch the game from an icon on my desktop then have to deal with steam or origin running in the background but I can't so there's no sense crying about it

I'm not really thinking about boycotters but rather that Steam has 30+ million subscribers and it's very good at advertising.

There should still be an enormous amount of people who don't even know Origin exists, but check Steam every day. At least that's my theory.

I bought it, not happy that I bought it. The SP pretty well sucks. It's like a hot chick with a shitty personality. It's bug ridden, poorly designed and cliched. Multiplayer seems fun, but there are still massive server issues and squads work about 50% of the time. All that won't matter, because next week the vast majority of my friends will buy MW3 and BF3 multiplayer will settle down to a dull roar.

Half the time when we get in the game 1 or more people are not in our squad even though we started in the same squad when searching for a game. And so far it's not the "best" ever. I still had more fun in BF2. That may change with time, but as I mentioned most will move on to MW3 next week so I'll probably do that as well as I'd prefer to squad up with friends than play with randoms.

No surprise, game is exceptional, where it counts. The multiplayer.
The frostbite 2 engine is pure FUEGO and you'll be playing for months unlocking everything there is to unlock. Besides you the look and feel of the game is such that you can easily suspend disbelief and see yourself in a digital battlefield.
To say nothing of the imaginative scenarios, jumping off a cliff then parachuting to reach your next objective, while the enemy is sniping and shooting rockets from below? PURE AWESOME!
Gotta hand it to DICE, they delivered the goods.
Now come next week, I'll be buying and playing MW3 and see what they got for me.
But as it stands right now, they have a lot to live up to.
