Phoenix Online Studios, the team behind the fan-made King's Quest sequel The Silver Lining, today announced its original, commercial adventure game, Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller. Fittingly for a game with supernatural airs, Gabriel Knight creator Jane Jensen is signed up as a story consultant.

Cognition stars FBI agent Erica Reed, who developed the ability of post-cognition while tracking the serial killer who murdered her brother. She'll use this supernatural power in tracking down a new serial killer who's suspiciously leaving clues seemingly aimed at Erica.

If that sounds like your bag, you may want to head over to Kickstarter and chip in a few bucks, as Phoenix is seeking $25,000 to get the project off the ground. You'll receive a copy of the game if you pledge at least $20, then there are various swanky bonuses for giving more.

Cognition's actually the brainchild of comic artist and Khaeon Gamestudio art director and comic artist Romano Molenaar, who approached Phoenix after playing The Silver Lining. The two studios will be working on the project together.

Cognition will be a four-part episodic series, kicking off in 2012. PC is the main platform, but Phoenix says console and mobile platforms are "under consideration."

Phoenix also announced today that the fourth episode of The Silver Lining will be released for free on November 6, to be followed by the fifth and final episode some time next year.

That sounds pretty awesome, especially if Jane Jensen is doing consulting for the game.

The last episode of the silver lining came out so long ago I almost forgot about the series. New episode out in a few days now. I hope it's better than the last one.

You should. It's maybe a tad on the easy side, but well worth playing.
