Batman: Arkham City save files disappearing for some users

A number of users on the official Batman: Arkham City forum have reported issues with save files for the Dark Knight's latest adventure.

According to an ongoing thread on the forum, users have returned to their game only to find their save files have either been corrupted or have outright vanished from their console. It appears that only Xbox 360 users are having the issue at the moment.

Rocksteady's first effort to craft an enjoyable Batman experience was marred by similar problems when it launched two years ago. A number of posts on, then publisher, Eidos' forums complained of saves suddenly becoming corrupted.

Representatives from Warner Bros. and Rocksteady have yet to comment on the complaints at the time of this writing. Shacknews has contacted representatives for the title, and will update this post if a response is offered.

Man, what the hell is it with all these recent games and their corrupted save files? Is this the backlash of more crap DRM? Or something else?

First rule of video games with sandbox and/or RPG elements and/or over 20 hours of gameplay: DON'T FUCK WITH SAVEGAME FILES. This phrase should be engraved in 35-inch-wide 1/2-inch-thick titanium plates in Impact font, and shipped to every game developer and/or online authentication service administrator falling into the scope defined above.

That is the last thing I want to hear about, whether it's a new patch breaking savegame compatibility (as happened with STALKER), or saves spontaneously going corrupt, or not being transferable between consoles and/or computers logging into the same online service account.

When I worked as a tester in a past life, my lead imparted me with a general rule of thumb. If a game uses multiple save slots, there's normally a reason for that.

This was a problem with Batman:AA too. I seem to remember it was partly the fault of GfWL, partly Rocksteady.

Well this is apparently 360-only, so GFWL is out of the picture here.

I'm guessing it has something to do with DRM.

not for me it didnt.. I was reading on the official forum. Apparently someone connected the HDD to their computer and recopied the save and that fixed it.
