With an asking price of $150 during such turbulent economic times, you really need to get a good look at the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 'Collector's Edition' before deciding to pick it up. The over-sized edition of the game features a large plastic statue of one of the game's (all the) dragons, bonus DVD, and 200-page art book. Get a closer look at everything included in our gallery unboxing after the jump. Soon after our review, we'll introduce a new series we're calling "Skyrim Stories," where editors from Shacknews will share their tales from the wild world of Skyrim.

A dragon statue, artbook, and more battles for your hard-earned cash

A bonus DVD looks behind-the-scenes of Skyrim's development

At over 200 pages, the art book offers a look at Skyrim's early development stages

Shack Staff stories are a collective effort with multiple staff members contributing. Many of our lists often involve entires from several editors, and our weekly Shack Chat is something we all contribute to as a group.

I was always a fan of these collectors editions, with the norm being most major game releases getting them and selling for the $150 price point. But just like DLC, it seems that this has just become another way for companies to make some quick cash..

I mean $90 for a plastic model and a 200 page art book.. C'mon guys, gotta do better than that. I mean not even an in game exclusive item is inluded.

That art book looks great. Only thing I'm really missing getting the standard edition...

How come even CEs don't come with full manuals anymore? Is it just so they can sell the strategy guide (which usually has the information that manuals used to have) in addition to the game?

That map looks rinky-dink. Not even cloth! Ultima IV came with a cloth map and a metal ankh. STANDARD EDITION.

Is the "...statue of one of the game's (all the) dragons..." statement an underhanded comment about a lack of dragon models in the game?

The only extra in this CE I would be interested in is the artbook. Statues and other desk clutter just get thrown back in the box and the box gets tossed in a closet. Hopefully they sell the artbook separately at some point.

way too expensive !!! even for that tat that is included, Bethesda cannot justify that price tag..

WOW, I was considering buying retail to get the map, but if that piece of crap holds a fold like that, it is nowhere near the quality they claimed. Burlap or wood pulp, it's still PAPER.

Maybe because Dark Souls is a fucking amazing (and unique) game?

Yep. Any time I play a great game, it pretty much makes me want to stop buying games. Wait, what?

are times really that turbulet economically or is that just a way to complain about things being more expensive than you want to pay?

Did this fall off the back of a truck or did someone forget their camera flash at home and figured "hey! lets shoot this outside!"

You can't even see the dragon model too well while stupidly positioned like that. At least put the damn thing facing the sun so we don't have a black blob of shadows removing any details from the model. -_-

Definitely not worth $150 if it isn't including a soundtrack and other assorted trinkets to tack up in the office cubicle. *grin*

$150 is ridiculous unless it comes with every DLC they plan on making for it.

Although I do kind of want to flip through that art book.

Artbooks are the sole reason I ever get CE of any game. But $150 is just ridiculous.

I would never pay that much, but I hope that you do - support Bethesda! What are you, cheap? Greedy?

I went with the uber crazy edition for Fallout 3, but this time around I already pre-purchased on Steam a while back. (or my wife did to surprise me, anyway)

I'll be WAY too into the game to focus on any toys made of physical matter.

That is some incredibly sexy pavement. The almost flawless tiling, beautiful contrast of brick and mortar, and just titillating crosshatched spray texture over the whole thing. And it's so clean. Where is that, outside the shack offices or something? I'm so filled with envy right now.

I'll pick the base game up for £30, then in a few months pick up one of these "limited" boxes up for £30 in one of the big stores.

If you buy the collectors edition for USD 150 the license key should allow you to upgrade with any future DLCs.
