Activision has teamed up with the fine folks at Mountain Dew and Doritos to provide double XP in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. But, how does the promotion work exactly?

Specially marked packages will contain codes you can use to unlock double XP time in Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer, when it comes out. For example, a 20 ounce Mountain Dew bottle will give you 15 minutes of time, while a family size 17 ounce Doritos bag will give you 90 minutes of bonus XP time.

Entering both a Mountain Dew and Doritos code together will earn an additional "Power Bonus," or 15 minutes of extra XP time. Here's a sample listing of the products you can get, and the time you'll receive:

  • Mtn Dew® 20 oz. bottle = 15 minutes
  • Mtn Dew® 12-pack = 45 minutes
  • Mtn Dew® 20-pack from Walmart = 90 minutes
  • 32 oz. or 44 oz. Mtn Dew® fountain cups = 15 minutes
  • 2.125 oz. or 2.875 oz. Doritos® bags = 15 minutes
  • 11.5 oz. Doritos® bag = 45 minutes
  • Family Size 17 oz. Doritos® bag from Walmart = 90 minutes
  • Power Bonus (any Mtn Dew® and Doritos® combination) = 15 minutes

A full product listing can be found here.

The promo will let you accumulate up to 24 hours of double XP time, which will give you a valuable leg up on your journey towards Prestige ranking. In addition, every time you enter a code, you'll receive a "Combat Card," which features additional special content, such as new weapons, characters, maps, perks, and strike packages.

Sure, you'll risk diabetes and obesity if you manage to max out on double XP time. But, isn't that what compels us to answer the call of duty?

Doritos has to be the least convenient snack whilst gaming. Who wants cheese and horrible stuff on their controller.

cheetos are not a problem. all you need to do is pour them into your mouth right from the bag.

Frito Lay should market gaming peripherals specifically designed to be easy to clean Doritos/Cheetos dust off of. They'd make a lot of money.

what if there was some sort of mechanism you could wear that would transfer cheetos directly from the bag into your mouth with the use of your arms. we're talking about the next generation of snack food consumption here.

This "article" really doesn't do much to refute the sentiment that "gaming journalism" is just another marketing arm of publishers.

Yeah I get that it's gaming news but I don't know why there's a full explanation of how it works, a listing of the products, and then a link for more information.

If I was an account exec at Gamefly I would be pissed and making a call to Pepsi to demand to know why they didn't buy some display. Oh, heh heh, your editorial side gave it to us for free.

This, to me, seems pretty disgusting and irresponsible. But hey... money for the companies, right?! I'd just hope most wouldn't fall for this at least considering the paltry number of minutes in return, lol?

I work for Pepsi. I'm up to my nose with these codes. I could easily have the most double xp time out of anyone, but I don't feel like typing in all those codes.

I will happily take those codes off your hand, good sir! Though, if MW3 is anything like the previous CoD games, I'll end up playing it off and on for a few weeks and then stop until they have a double XP weekend and then only play a couple of rounds and never touch it again until the next CoD is released.

        October 26, 2011 5:39 PM

No, not just buy the 17 of those, they have to sit down in the store and eat them in order to get the double XP and even then, it'll only be worth like 20 minutes of double XP.

I'm sure there would be people who attempted it still.

This article doesn't explain how the game knows that you've entered the codes. Is this an Xbox Live only promo, does this require you to sigh up for their CoD Facebook thing? Do you just enter it in the game?
