Modern Warfare 3 launch trailer dubs it 'most anticipated game in history'

Activision has released a launch trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, a game the trailer dubs as "the most anticipated game in history."

It feels like it was only yesterday that we were playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at Activision's Call of Duty XP event. Well, believe it or not the shooter is launching in just over two weeks.

A launch trailer for the upcoming Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Raven Software-developed title has been released today, featuring shots of all four of the game's primary locations: America, England, France, and Germany.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3--which the trailer dubs is the "most anticipated game in history"--launches on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC. A Wii version is in development at Treyarch, while n-Space is working on the game for Nintendo DS.

I think it will be fun, but it doesn't look very innovative. In that sense, it's a waste of potential.

From what I've seen it's not innovative at all... Looks EXACTLY like MW2

why? because it looks like a scripted event funfest and some average shooting action. like mw2 - man i was so hyped for mw2 - and in the end it was such a let down .. a few nice moments like the snowmobile action.. but nowhere near as much variety as the trailer suggested. i don't think it will be different this time.

i won't fall for this one. not again :)

Look, they may have poured on the hyperbole a little too much by putting that in the trailer, but it's not like it's that far off from the truth. Definitely not so false that it warrants your post. MW2 sold like 5 million in 24 hours or so. To think MW3 won't have huge sales that is close to that if not better........ is fucking stupid.

I'm not a fanboy, but IIRC MW2 sold a historic amount of copies in the first week.

You're missing the point. Most anticipated game in HISTORY? It might look good, but to describe it as the most anticipated game in history is hyperbole at best.

To be fair, how many games can you name that were more anticipated? The wording is arguable, but lets assume anticipated equates to initial sales. I bet they felt confident enough to put that in there based on pre-orders alone which probably to them is at the same level or doing better than MW2.

It's possible they're just thinking $Call$$of$$Duty$ too - in that case, yeah hyperbole. Wouldn't surprise me. It's a dick thing to put in a trailer regardless. I hate trailers that are all about telling you how popular something is.

Most pre-orders seems like the best way to quantify "most anticipated." Not that I know if MW3 has set a pre-order record or not.

It took Black Ops 24 hours to pass what Halo 3 did in 2 weeks and even that was better than Halo 2.

              Actually I think the list goes Black Ops > MW2 > GTA4 > Halo 3

blops also launched on three platforms vs. just one for halo 2 and 3

I don't think that's a fair point, but it doesn't matter: MW2 sold 4 million something within a month on the 360; Halo 3 sold 3 million something in over a month.

Blops sold more than Halo 2 and 3 did when you just keep it to the Xbox/360.
