Final Fantasy XIV Vita app being considered

After Square Enix relaunches Final Fantasy XIV with version 2.0, you might also get an app on your Vita to let you check stats and item sales on the go.

After a launch that Square Enix acknowledges was a disaster, Final Fantasy XIV is getting a Version 2.0 update that promises to look and play significantly better than before. On top of that, the company now says it's considering connectivity with other devices like the PlayStation Vita.

You wouldn't be able to play the full game on the go, but producer Naoki Yoshida told RPGSite (via PushSquare) that applications could allow users to check inventory, shop at the market, or purchase items at auction. "Those are the things we are laying for in our service foundation, so we can be ready to implement those after [version] 2.0," he said.

Meanwhile, the long-delayed PlayStation 3 version of the game isn't hitting until 2013, and Square is hoping to launch a beta next year. Yoshida adopted an apologetic tone referring to the long delay, which we've seen quite a bit of lately.

"The one thing to regain that damaged player trust is to keep those promises, and one of the promises was to release a PlayStation 3 version – we made that promise long, long ago, and we still haven’t kept it," he said. "We made that promise not only to the players, but to Sony as well. The first thing that we need to do, to regain that trust, is to fulfill those promises of bringing the PS3 version. Our priority right now is getting that version finished."

Negative: I'm still playing FFXIV and the game is totally different than launch over 1 yr ago. Playing JRPGMMO for free for a year is pretty hawt shit! 2.0 is going to be legendary!
