L.A. Noire used to feature 'forceful' interrogations

Rockstar's VP of Product Development, Jeronimo Barrera, looks back at L.A. Noire's development and reveals that it once let players beat up interrogation subjects.

Sometimes, don't you wish Cole Phelps would forgo questioning a suspect? Maybe you've wanted to just beat an answer out of someone, instead of having to use an Intuition Point in L.A. Noire? Jeronimo Barrera, VP of Product Development at Rockstar Games, talked about how that once was an option for players to take in the game.

"The team did experiment with implementing a 'force' option that would encourage Phelps to get physical during the interrogations," Barrera said. So why was it taken out?

"But often when we tested, players would go for that option first, locking themselves out of any opportunity to actually get to the truth," Barrera explained to G4TV. "Beating up a witness would almost certainly be a much less reliable way of getting evidence than TV shows might lead you to believe."

Given players' propensity for mischief in open-world video games, the omission is logical, even though Cole Phelps doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'd be averse to punching folks in the kisser for information.

The PC version of L.A. Noire will be available on November 8.

would have made replays much more fun if you had some fightnight style interrogations in it!
