Gears of War 3 'RAAM's Shadow' DLC announced

Epic today announced the first single-player campaign DLC for Gears of War 3, 'RAAM's Shadow,' which will see players joining a new squad with some familiar faces... as well as crushing puny humans by playing as Gears 1 final boss General RAAM.

Having teased that Gears of War 3 campaign downloadable content wouldn't star series mainstays Delta Squad, Epic has revealed just whose metal boots you'll step into. The developer today announced the DLC 'RAAM's Shadow,' a prequel to the series starring a new squad with some familiar faces.

More surprisingly, though, you'll also get to play as Gears of War 1's final boss, General RAAM.

RAAM's Shadow will see you join Zeta Squad, commanded by Michael Barrick from the Gears comic, Lt. Minh Young Kim from Gears 1, Tai Kaliso from Gears 2, and new character Alicia Valera. This ill-fated group will face RAAM as they try to evacuate Ilima City post-Emergence Day.

Though, really, who isn't more excited about getting to play as RAAM at some point, assaulting Ilima and being generally unpleasant to humans?

"RAAM’s imposing size and strength, along with his Kryll shield, make him one of the most powerful and daunting foes in the 'Gears' universe," design director Cliff Bleszinski said in the announcement. "We think fans are going to have a blast unleashing hell upon the poor humans for the first time in a campaign setting."

RAAM's Shadow will pack an estimated three hours of campaign content, along with six new multiplayer characters, the Chocolate Weapon Set, and another 250 Gamerscore of achievements. Slated to launch on December 13, it'll cost 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15), or come with the $30 Season Pass.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to buy the season pass. I wish they would at least give more details on all the DLC packs it includes. Now I'm leaning towards buying it, that sounds pretty fun.

I'll probably just buy it, even though its sort of mystery meat at this point.

Depends how badly you want to play it. DLC always eventually goes on sale.

When they finish releasing all of the games DLC, it will likely go on sale for less than the season pass.

I love this trend of putting you in the shoes of the bad guys, especially those that may seem unbalanced or overly powerful like RAAM. Halo 2 started it with the ability to play the Arbiter. I like being able to bounce around to different characters and see things from the other side's perspective. Too many games try to build up a cult around their central protagonist.
