Angry Birds played by 30 million people per day

Angry Birds is played by 30 million people per day, according to North American general manager Andrew Stalbow.

So it turns out this whole Angry Birds thing is pretty popular. We know it's been downloaded 350 million times, it's the top-selling PSN game, and the game has helped boost the value of developer Rovio to an estimated $1 billion. Now for one more statistic to blow your mind: 30 million people play it every day.

Of course, that feat is made possible by the fact that Angry Birds is on almost every platform imaginable.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that the number came from North American general manager Andrew Stalbow at the Web 2.0 conference. The game is also estimated at 300 million minutes of playtime, and has been downloaded an additional 50 million times since our previous report, bringing the total to 400 million.

To put that number in perspective, New York City houses roughly 8 million people. So imagine almost four NYCs, all flicking pissed-off fowl at pigs, every day. That's how popular Angry Birds is.

New York City comprises five boroughs of which Manhattan is only one. The population of Manhattan is 1,585,873, so 18.1 "Manhattans", not "almost four", play Angry Birds every day. Get your shit straight, shacknews.

Yeah, and birds, usually domesticated, are fowl, not foul. What a terrible article!

To be fair if the writer had the trouble of making the comparison (even being a senseless one), he may well use the correct numbers.

I feel bad for the guy/guys who made that Break the Castle game that Angry Birds ripped off.

Everything is a rip off, I'm not denying that all, just saying it's too bad the Castle guys couldn't capitalize on it like Rovio.

Crush the Castle is unplayable garbage. Go ahead, try it. The game looks and plays like crap. It's not fun. It had a few good ideas. The Angry Birds devs took those few good ideas and combined it hundreds of more good ideas and made a product that was actually enjoyable.

I disagree - Crush the Castle played fine and was very fun. I beat both versions.

I don't think it's unplayable garbage, but I agree it's not as polished as Angry Birds. I did still enjoy it though.

I quit on like level 50 when I couldn't do it. Instead I have played like 2000 levels of Bubble Blast 2. it's like that game in TNG when I win.

Never finished any of the games (or variations). Got sick of it half way through. Have never given Rovio a penny of my money.

Not sure why it's so popular and why the company is "worth" $1 billion. Ridiculous how valuations are assigned these days.

Got to admit, I don't really get it, always seemed like a pretty bad game to me. This article pretty much sums up my feelings: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-04-04-why-i-hate-angry-birds-opinion
