If you're looking for surprises, go read a Robert Ludlum novel--because this month's NPD report is shockingly predictable. The top game of the month is none other than EA's Madden 12, which manged to sell 1.4 million copies in its first week.

EA actually dominated quite a large chunk of the sales pie, with FIFA and NHL 12 also earning high spots on the sales charts. Gears of War 3 is the top exclusive of the month, securing the second place spot.

sad to see Deus Ex HR fall to 6th place. I was hoping it would stay in the top 3. What a great game.

I know, it's just an epic shock that developers choose to market to those gamers and/or just port console versions to PC.

Sony, as of press time, has not released any console sales figures.

Does that mean they're really really bad, or do they normally just release their numbers later?

I really don't care about NPD numbers unless they include digital sales too. It's like having a movie simultaneously release on Blu-ray and in theaters, but we're not going to report on the box office gross, just the blu-ray sales.

Gamers still play Madden. Why don't they just dust off Madden 1997. Its the same game.

Yeah, that's the review score Madden 12 deserves.

Nah, it's a fine football game. Nothing major wrong with it except the price tag. I hope someone somewhere can win the legal battle with EA so there can be cheap competition for this game. The Bigs is a great alternative to MLB2K11.
