Dead Island PC patch targets corrupt saves

Fixes for weapon duping, offline mode, corrupt saves, offline mode and more have arrived in a new patch for the PC edition of Dead Island via Steam.

Dead Island's Bloodbath Arena downloadable content was delayed at the end of September so developer Techland could fix up the main game, and now we're seeing the first fruits of that work. A PC patch hit Steam yesterday, with fixes for weapon duping exploits, corrupt saved games, offline mode, and more.

There's no word yet on whether further patches are coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions, but one would certainly imagine so. Here's the full changelog for yesterday's PC patch:

  • Fixed running game on Steam in offline mode

  • Fixed damaged saves when a player has more than 190 items in inventory (weapon or stacked items, counting in items from Jin's storage and player inventory). Corrupted savegames will be recovered when possible.

  • Fixed problems with unlocking "There and back again" with progress 72/72

  • Fixed duplicating weapons:

    • When throwing and dropping at one time

    • When dropping items from inventory

  • Optimized scanning for friends-process, to decrease lobby server workload

  • Fixed random freezes when playing 4 players coop no longer appear

  • Fixed issues when using medkits from inventory menu

  • Stacking items issue solved: miscellaneous items to 9999, medkits and alcohol to 30 instead of 10.

  • Added the option to disable voice chat in game.

  • Limited Jin's storage capacity to 150

  • Fixed: disappearing items when there is no place in inventory and a player tries to get an item from Jin's storage

  • Improved trading: items will be removed from the smallest stack instead of a random one.

  • Fixed problems with corrupted profiles, which caused the game to start with black screen and freeze.

  • Fixed levitating zombies after killing

  • Fixed not being able to show quest details in quest menu using Xbox controller

Bloodbath Arena is now slated to arrive in "mid-November." Offered free as a pre-order bonus by certain retailers or costing $10 otherwise, it'll add a wave survival mode with four maps and a new mind-exploding weapon.

Offline mode AND offline mode? They've really outdone themselves!

I'm not sure if fixing the dupe exploit was a good thing; Obviously it unbalances the game, but there were so many ways to lose a good weapon (glitch, disappear after thrown, etc.) that I'd keep a copy in the safe just in case.

The durability system makes the game un-fun for me. At level 33 being forced to use hat racks and old pipes for weapons is stupid. When the patch landed, I just removed it from Steam.

Wow. You're doing it wrong. Yeah, just go ahead and uninstall.

Woah man you just plainly suck then, i never once (except the start of the game) picked up those items to fight, i always had at least 8+ good weapons in my inventory and theres so many workbench all over the place that i never had more than 4 weapons below 40% at any given time.

I am baffled as to how you ended up in such a situation after the first few hours in the game.

don't listen to them, i'm in the same boat as you. i got really bored of the durability and upgrade system (not mods). Shit broke too fast and if you spent money upgrading your weapon you'd have no cash to repair/mod stuff. it was very annoying because i was so fucking sick of looting containers

Are there any mods that remove or tone down the durability aspect?
I haven't played much yet, but I noticed that weapons seem to degrade very quickly.

Also do mods trigger a VAC ban?

You're doing it wrong too. Do you guys just run around and swing your weapon at every single mob till it dies? No kicks and head stomps? How are you failing this badly with your weapons? Are they all low dmg and shitty? I'm baffled.

"Added the option to disable voice chat in game."

This should be at the top in giant bold letters. The in-game chat was awful, and last night my friend and I were finally able to use Steam chat.

Really fun game though, if you haven't taken a look at it on PC I'd say it's in good shape now and worth a look.
