"In the world's darkest hour, are you willing to do what is necessary?" That's how Activision is pitching the newest trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Today's video highlights the single player campaign, and shows off the tumultuous events of World War 3. Apparently, WW3 will be a pretty action-packed spectacle, with lots of explosions near iconic landmarks around the world.

Pay close attention, and you might even pay witness to a very Uncharted-esque plane crash.

Modern Warfare 3 will be available on November 8th.

MW1 was great, MW 2 was really MW1.5 and BLOPS was MW1.5 with a time machine. i think i want something a little more realistic this time like BF3...and better looking.

Khan are you as upset as I am that DICE did not accurately model what the toilet looks like after the protagonist wakes up from a whiskey and taco bell binge?

Battlefield is a playground for snipers, MW looks much more fun.

Yeah, keep my money off of MW3 and purchase BF3 instead. I think thats necessary.
Thanks for your first jump into $60 pricepoint for PC platform, inspiring other devs to follow suit.
Thanks for taking out dedicated server in MW2. Thanks for not allowing mods and charging crazy price for maps.

That was the gaming world's darkest hour (at least according to me). I'm doing what is necessary.

BF3 isnt allowing mods either, EA is also responsible for the whole online pass thing and excessive DLC that others are now following.

So if you think about it neither publisher is as good as the other IMO

I understand that, but I was referring to the quality of the game itself. Maybe I'm still a bit butthurt over the last few Call of Duty games so I'm looking for a substitute. In any case, a big open map warfare with 64 players and vehicle combat should be more interesting than just close quarter infantry combat, right?

OH YEAH. 6 hour single player experience with no pacing whatsoever, 6 straight hours of stuff blowing up on screen and nauseating rail shooting, and another 2 hours of WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN *on screen flashing* /commence epileptic seizure.

If I were doing the story to MW3 (and I'm not) I think I'd go for a whole Alan Moore/Watchmen "world on the brink of nuclear holocaust" thing. I mean the story is the classic "Red Tanks rolling across Europe/to the North Sea" thing...why not have it escalate to using tactical nukes initially. And then have the whole campaign from that point on just be this slow but unstoppable doomsday march to all out nuclear war with strategic nukes.

Maybe they could have a kid or parent at home with the TV on being one of your POV characters and you'd enter their mundane life occasionally with this Domocles Sword hanging over your head and you're watching the news (or if you're a kid...maybe you're playing with your friends as your mom or dad is watching the news and the situation is getting slowly worse). You'd play as soldiers on the front lines as always...initially with a traditional war going on...then a neutron bomb or tactical nuke gets used...then more...and it escalates...you die early on in a nuclear blast...and you're playing another guy in the fighting and on that front as things go full on tactical nukes vs tanks and shit.

And eventually you get to the all out war and towards the end (or maybe AT the end of the game) you're just the kid or parent or whatever...doing you're normal stuff with the whole world going crazy thing in the background...and all of a sudden your life is cut short by a nuclear blast...its the end of the world...then have a final couple battles in that setting with you fighting a seemingly futile/pointless fight as the world dies around.

THAT is the MW3 I'd make.

This is getting to be like Dragonball Z where each following iteration has to be more powerful than the last.

I think there were more V-22's in this trailer than in the entire military inventory.

My prediction for MW4. The US falls and you play as part of a guerrilla team weakening the occupying force through attrition.
