Rockstar 'aware' gamers want Red Dead Redemption on PC

Rockstar heard you wanted Red Dead Redemption on PC and had something to say about it happening. In short, they're aware you want it, but they aren't announcing anything.

Without fail, whenever Shacknews writes a story about Red Dead Redemption, commenters ask when Rockstar's latest western will be coming to PC. Though Rockstar is bringing titles like L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3 to the platform, gamers still clamor for the chance to step into John Marston's spurs on their personal computers.

"Of course we’re well aware that some fans have been asking for it," Rockstar wrote in an 'Asked & Answered' post on the company's blog. Unfortunately for PC fans, it still doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon.

"All we can say is that whenever it is viable (technically, developmentally and business-wise) for us to release a game for PC (or any other particular platform)--we will and we usually do; unfortunately, that is just not the case 100% of the time for all platforms," the post reveals.

Rockstar says it hopes that its announcement of L.A. Noire coming to PC, as well as past titles like Grand Theft Auto IV and its expansions and the upcoming Max Payne 3 all hitting PC can "finally" puts to rest any "misconceptions" that the company has "abandoned" the PC platform. "We do know that, yes, there is just one title absent from our PC release plans--that game of course being Red Dead Redemption," the lengthy post, which responds to fan inquires, admitted.

"To PC gamers, we hope that between the Grand Theft Auto titles, and the forthcoming L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3, you’ll have plenty of great Rockstar action to enjoy." We feel confident that, in response, most PC gamers will only have one thing to add: when is Red Dead Redemption coming to the PC?

Right... so whats the reason again?

      Weird...

Really, there is no reason besides they are either do not want to spend development time and resources to deliver the game on PC platform. Easy and simple.

You have to see that the reason they give basically is marketing/PR talk. No more, no less. Still viable, we know that pc platform is important, bla bla bla bla...

The point they are trying to make is: Keep waiting, but its not gonna happen.

Rockstar, I'll be really happy if you prove me wrong. Do it.

I really hate vague excuses like this, how is it not "viable?" Imagine giving that excuse to your boss on a project without explaining youself; you'd be out on the street in no time. If they said "it would cost "x" and the profits from "y" were "z" so we don't think it will do well," then I could understand, but all they're saying here is "if we can we will, if we can't we won't" without explaining a damn thing.

They don't owe anyone an explanation and therefore can just drop one liners as they do.

I really hate this line of reasoning. Sure, technically, Rockstar doesn't owe anyone shit. However, here in non-asshole land, you'd think you'd want to throw fans of your work a fucking bone once in a while.

I don't really see how they're being assholes here. Throwing them a bone is saying "Hey we're not planning on shit so stop waiting around."

Not, "well we'll open our books up and look at how our current quarterly earnings are slated. Now lets look at previous quarter earnings of PC releases vs console releases. Now lets also breakdown if it is cost effective to have a small team of people prepare the port and test for issues and keep that team on PC updates/community monitoring. As you can see this cost/return value is low."

So, instead of saying that, why not say, "there will not be a pc version because we believe it would be a financial loss for us, preventing us from exploring new IPs." Done and done, short and sweet. That is a reasonable explanation, why not use that? You'd upset less people and give apologists like yourself better fodder than "they dont owe you anything."

Then they open themselves up for bad PR when they do ship a PC game. They open their defenses to questions of cost, planned ROI, investments amounts. It's not rocket science, in PR, you don't apologize for shit because it can lead to more harm than good.
Sure, some forum people will get butthurt about their feelings, but guess what, they'll be the first to buy the game if it ever gets released.

By "ship a PC game", I mean another PC game, such as a future port of GTA 5 for example.

Yeah I'm a big apologist around here? What the fuck.

It's people being upset that the game isn't coming out on PC...okay I get that. But what you have here is a company just hedging their bets really. The game's been out for over a fucking year on consoles now at this point. So if you really want to play it, get it on the console...otherwise its going to be a long wait. I don't know Rockstars books or their plans for future games. Maybe they're dicking around or they just don't feel like it. I am not apologizing for Rockstar, I'm being realistic about it. The fact that they have now said "NO PLANS FOR NOW" indicates that it won't be anytime soon.

They don't owe us anything in the sense that the game is out already. Lots of games that could be on the PC never go there. There are PC games that never hit consoles. Such is life. I just think people are really fucking hung up on the idea that Rockstar is somehow wronging people.

I agree, with the caveat that they work on cross-platform a bit with RDR 2. It's stupid that a game release in 2010 by a huge development studio would not take multi-platform into better account. Especially when they actually do that properly for their other games.

For the record, I don't want my copy for xbox, let alone for the platform I'd have preferred to have wasted my money on in the first place.

IMO, RDR sucked. It was GTA 4, add horses, subtract cars and fun.
