With action-tower defense Orcs Must Die! arriving on Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow and PC next week, developer Robot Entertainment has handily released a demo to let us all try our hand at fending off hordes of greenskin cads.

The PC demo is a 1.1GB download through Steam. It contains three levels with a selection of traps and upgrades, giving a fair taste of how it feels to set diabolical machines and beat the orcs into pulp with your own weapons and magic.

You can also now pre-order the full game from Steam for $14.99 ahead of its October 12 launch, where a shiny special in-game outfit and weapon are on offer as incentive.

There's no demo for the Xbox 360 edition yet but, as it's an XBLA game, one will be on offer when it launches tomorrow.

Tried the demo, this game is tons of fun- But why would I spent $15 on a single player game when one week later Dungeon Defenders (multiplayer!) comes out for $10?

Was wondering the exact same thing. Demo downloading now, so we'll see. But, I could see OMD may be a better jump in and play for 20min kind of game where DD is probably a longer play.

So... being "tons of fun" is not enough justification to drop a whole 15$?

That's pretty much all the reason I need to buy a game. MP, SP, whatever... fun means buy.

My thinking was more about replay value. The demo didn't really show how the replay value develops.

Well, see now, I'm a part-time employed college student making minimum wage. So a whole $15 is actually a lot of money for me :P

Fuck dungeon defenders. That game has been delayed over and over. And I hear they've made a lot of changes and plan to micro transaction the fuck out of people. It once had a lot of promise, but that was a year ago

yeah, you know they're up to something when the game doesn't have a price on Steam. f2p by micro transactions, eh? we'll see.

Because it is a good game and if you want to see good games like this in the future from these guys it's always a good idea to buy their stuff and support them. I'm sure that if this game does well enough then whatever they do as a followup may have some multiplayer component.

        Because the demo was awesome?

If you liked the demo.... the next level in the game is The Baths, it is a pretty nice step up strat/challenge wise. And it just gets more fun from there.

I'll probably get both, also, I know Orcs Must Die! is fun (tried the demo), no idea about Dungeon Defenders.

I didn't see the point of the game. No challenge, no interest, just pure boredom.

The demo is of the first few levels. Of course it's going to be easy. How is this a hard concept to grasp?

Well the concept is very thin.

eh, aren't most tower defense games equally thin on concept? path of monster, line path with towers of various abilities, kill monster waves for cash, upgrade towers, wash, rinse, repeat, add basic story line of world conquest and you're attempt to stop it.... that's pretty much every single tower defense game ever made (or will be made for that matter)

Fun game! Could benefit from more unlocks/xp system perhaps, 15 levels seems a little shallow too. But incredible fun to just kill lots and lots of orcs!

24 levels - and they ramp up in difficulty.
