"I'm freaking out because we're making an Aliens game," Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford says in the introduction to his E3 gameplay demonstration of the upcoming Colonial Marines. This presentation was previously exclusive for the eyes of E3 attendees, but now you'll be able to see from the comfort of your home.

"This is a big moment for us... You're going to see what the game actually looks like. Not just screenshots. Actual gameplay," Pitchford adds.

"Gearbox has captured the tone and look of the series," Xav said in his E3 preview. Would you agree?

Probably going to end up a heavy scripted QTE mess of potentially awesome RPG.

Looks nice graphically, but filled with canned events. The latest AVP had all kinds of this bullshit, scenes where control is taken away from you periodically.

I still feel slighted by SEGA from buying that game day one. No chance of a purchase here.

Sadly I agree. Today's fps are following the MoH/CoD formula of single-player game design. They all want to be interactive summer blockbuster movies. Instead of having organic gameplay everything's got to be fucking scripted. They even have a specific spot where you put the sentry turrets, ugh. I would've been happier if they simply redid the models, textures and sound fx from L4D2 and called it a day.

But it does look and sound great so good job by the artists.

I saw this at PAX Prime. The problem with the story is that the atomic blast from end of aliens would have left nothing left but a crater. The thing that's more of a big deal about the game is the design. Gearbox used the art and designs from the original film designer. Art and design that wasn't featured in the film do to cost/Cameron didn't like it, & ect. is now seen for the first time. I think that they said it 80% unused art and design in the film was used in the game.

Been wanting an Alien game like this forever, looks the part! Obviously needs more work, but I have a feeling it will deliver, at least to huge fans of the films anyway. When's this due for a release?

Looks pretty cool. I wish they'd showed it on PC instead of a PS3. you could tell they were driving w/ a controller, not a mouse.

might be scripted, but still looks good.

Oh wow, i thought the comments would be exaggerated but this does look ridiculously scripted. And how is it that he killed an alien inches away from his face using a shotgun and isn't affected by acid in the least. In fact, throughout the video acid didn't seem to be a factor, hopefully that changes in the final build

Wayyyyyyyy too scripted and the aliens somehow did not seem all that threatening. I think it's because both the player and the aliens moved too sluggishly, giving the player way too much time to aim at them. Probably a side effect of it being designed for consoles. I approve of the amount of attention given to detail though.

Pitchford reminds me of a 12 year showing off his new game. Yes, Andy, we've all seen the movies, no need to quote them every chance you get.

The game does not look like what I was hoping for. Was anyone else disappointed by the lack of gibbing aliens? I want this game to be good, hopefully there's a lot more work going into it before it's released.

Yeah, but it doesn't matter how far the game is from being released. Getting things running smoother, adding flashy visual effects, tightening up the feel of the weapons; these are things they can change before the game is out. They aren't going to rip out those scripted events and completely redesign the gameplay.

I kind of wish they'd just stop pretending and make these games full on rail shooters like Area 51 or House of the Dead. I don't need control over my legs if the game is constantly trying to force me to do whatever the developers want me to do anyway. Just make my legs robots with a mind of their own please.

You took the words out of my mouth. The single-player portions of fps games being put out today remind me more of on rail shooters rather than the fps I grew up on.

Just doesn't have a feeling of gameplay. It's like the player is on rails.

The reactor was some distance away from the control center, but Bishop says in the movie 40MT yield with blast radius of 30km. If there was uneven terrain, and the atmosphere was still thin, that could help I imagine.

A few more thoughts after watching the full thing:

      1. Aliens a bit too slow and cludgy-looking
      2. The regular Aliens look way too wimpy and scrawny and too short
      3. Finally, the Aliens' animation is pretty choppy, imho. Need to tweak that big-time before launch or forget it.

I'd like for this game to be good but knowing Gearbox's pedigree, they'll jack up the PC version or worse just not even give it much attention. I'm expecting no AA capabilities for the PC version, a blocky, console-centric UI, and no ability to manage or tweak the FOV for those of us who get nausea. But there's always hope, I suppose....

All the alien assets are undoubtedly taken directly from the latest AVP game, so any limitations you may have noticed there, such as a paucity of injured animations, blood spatters, or only a very few dismemberment animations, will be in this game as well.

The 'classic' AVP still has the best alien animations and dismemberment options. I recall being able to shoot off just the tail, or one leg, and seeing the animations change and blood spurt from the stump. It added quite a bit to the experience. AVP2 started the current trend of poor alien animations.

are you sure all alien assets are taken *directly* from the latest avo game? i don't think that would work very well for them haha. recipe for disaster. looking at this video, i may take your word for granted
