Perfect World Entertainment announces its next action-RPG, called War of the Immortals.

Perfect World Entertainment has revealed its next game, an action-MMORPG called War of the Immortals. In it, the city of Atlantis is besieged by the evil forces of Ragnarok, and players must take up arms to battle the invading legion. War of the Immortals also promises "more content and bigger PvP elements" than present in previous Perfect World MMOs.

Eight playable classes--Berzerker, Champion, Heretic, Magus, Slayer, Duelist, Ranger and Enchantress--are available, each with class-specific Soul Gear equipment that will grow and change as the player levels up. Guild housing can also be built, used to "plan upcoming raids, trade crafting materials and pick up new recruits," and said guilds can then battle for territory and resources.

The announcement doesn't specify whether or not War of the Immortals will be free-to-play like many of Perfect World's MMOs, subscription-based, or if it will utilize a more traditional model like the upcoming Torchlight 2. We've reached out to Perfect World Entertainment for clarification, but haven't heard back yet.

[Update: We've since heard back from Perfect World Entertainment with clarification that War of the Immortals will indeed utilize the free-to-play model employed by its other titles.]

The official announcement trailer can be seen below, and interested parties can sign up for the closed beta that begins on October 25 on the War of the Immortals website.

Hmm, looks like from the video, it's an 3/4 camera view MMO much like how diablo is.. interesting. hey, if it's free.. can't really complain.

The trailer has the free to play label at the end so it's safe to assume it's the same model as all of their other MMOs.

They also send you a beta key right away if you sign up (doesn't go live for another month), so... maybe it's not a random selection?

w/e... could be interesting to play while waiting for Diablo 3.
