New Xbox 360 data cable allows S-to-S transfers

Microsoft has released a new Xbox 360 Yes, it still costs $15.

Fifteen months after launching the Xbox 360 Slim model, Microsoft has released a new version of the data transfer cable that'll let you swap your stuff between two Xbox 360 S consoles. Clearly it's been a long and expensive R&D process, as yes, it still costs $15.

Xbox's Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb sends word that you can order the new hard drive cable from Microsoft now.

Of course, if you only have 16GB or less of data on your Xbox 360, you can simply use a USB flash drive to transfer it to another console.

Yep, that's a new cable all right.

Microsoft's new business model: sell the Xbox cheap, make the data transfer cable expensive.

You think this is a new business model? You think it's unique to Microsoft?

Consoles have always subscribed to the Gillette Razor model - give away razors to sell razor blades forever. This is why companies take a loss on console hardware (at the beginning of a console's life, anyway) - because they make up for it in game royalties and extra controllers and overpriced hard drives and $15 pieces of wire and plastic.

This is why you laugh at people who move to consoles because they're so much cheaper. Once you take everything into account, they're really not and they never were.

setting aside the fact that the discussion went completely over your head, i'll bite. Just because a console price is subsidized by game sales doesn't mean the price isn't really cheaper. If I still pay less for the console, the console is cheaper. Now if I went and bought every optional accessory, it wouldn't be cheaper anymore. Then again, if I did the same thing on the PC side it probably would be.

Unless of course you are taking into account that you can steal games on the PC, thus making up for the price difference in hardware. Then I guess you aren't stupid, you are just full of shit.

Anyways, people don't move to console for the price. They move to console because playing games on the PC can be a giant pain in the ass and a second job.

More like 1500% mark up is expensive.
