Riot games has announced that the limited beta test for League of Legend's new "Dominion" mode begins today.

Last month, we reported that Riot Games' free-to-play, action-RPG League of Legends would be getting a new game mode called "Dominion," soon. It's not yet time for the mode's official release, but Riot has announced that a limited beta test for the new mode is beginning today.

The official announcement on the League of Legends website reads, in part:

Over the coming days, we'll be opening testing windows on our platforms during off-peak hours, each of which will be prefaced by a forum announcement to let you know you can and participate. And if you miss one of the testing windows, remember that there will be plenty more opportunities to help test Dominion as we speed toward launch!

Dominion's fast-paced, twenty-minute matches take place in a "war-torn mining village" called Crystal Scar, which contains five control points for players to capture and defend.

No word on the duration of the beta or Dominion's official launch date has been revealed, but you can head on over to the LoL forum to troll for those announcements.

Played a round of this at lunch. It's much faster paced in terms of levels and items (you start with like 900 gold and at level 3) and it's a bit complicated figuring out where you should be, but it's tons of fun. Still now sure how the tower damage works though.

A shame that it is only during "non-peak" hours, means many of us won't get to play it much, if at all.

I think that's the point, unfortunately.

anyways i played it and it was really fun, fast and awesome. (thats what she said)

I hate being stuck in a typical 5v5 match for an hour so these 15 to 20 minutes burst really works for me!

they are stress testing their servers, as they preform good enough I would expect that the definition of "non-peak" hours will expand to a later & longer period of time.

This seems to be the best way to get the testing they need before the floodgates open & their servers get slammed.

^^ my thoughts exactly. I got on at 7:55 this morning before I went to work. Off peak hours I think so but it wasn't up :(
