Scribblenauts charmed us when it debuted at E3 in 2009, and now that it's been translated to Japanese, it's become a critical darling there as well. Tokyo Game Show organizer CESA announced that the game won the "Designers Award," which is chosen by a panel of game designers.

This marks the second year of the award, and both have gone to non-Japanese games. The first went to last year's Heavy Rain.

The game received a full Japanese localization from Konami, and was titled "Hirameki Puzzle: Maxwell no Fushigi na Note." The sequel, Super Scribblenauts, is also planned for release in Japan.

The TGS Game of the Year award is voted on by the public, and was taken this year by Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. CESA notes that the small panel of game designers gave Scribblenauts more votes than the public at large did in online voting.

A Special Award was given to Red Dead Redemption, and Pokemon Black and White won for both Best Sales and the Global Award (Japanese Product). The Global Award (Foreign Product) went to Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Various other games won the Award for Excellence:

  • Wii Party (Nintendo, Wii)

  • Legend of Heroes Zero no Kiseki (Falcom, PSP)

  • Catherine (Atlus, PS3/X360)

  • Gran Turismo 5 (Sony, PS3)

  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo, Wii)

  • Xenoblade (Nintendo, Wii)

  • Donkey Kong Returns (Nintendo, Wii)

  • Ni no Kuni (Level-5, DS)

  • Pokemon Black & White (Pokemon, DS)

  • Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (Konami, PSP)

  • Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom, PSP)

That game seems like it would be crazy to localize.
