Katamari Damacy coming to PlayStation Vita

Katamari Damacy will get a new entry on the PlayStation Vita, with both touch screen and rear touch pad controls to roll your ball of junk.

Namco Bandai announced today that a new Katamari Damacy title is coming to the PlayStation Vita, and it will use the touch screen and rear touch pad to roll up your balls of random stuff.

You can expect to play as the Prince once again, tasked by the King of All Cosmos to gather up junk, from tiny objects like ants to significantly larger ones like Mount Fuji. The entire mountain. Yeah, it's that kind of crazy.

Thanks to the touch features on the Vita, you can roll your katamari side-to-side now, which means gathering up balls of stuff won't feel like you're parallel parking. Details on the game are slim, and Namco didn't provide a release window, but the colorful game seems like a natural fit for the Vita's OLED screen. Check out the trailer below.

Wow this could be pretty cool but it could just be more of the same.
IT's about time they did something inventive with the series instead of just adding more areas to the exsisting title and relabling it for another system.
With that being said, even if it's just the same stuff, it will still be fun and worth the money.

Games in over-crowded genres like FPS and jRPGs need to add "innovations" to stand out. Katamari is a one of a kind game, and all it really needs is more of the same.

Wanting to make something for kids to enjoy makes you a pedophile? That's pretty cynical...

Yeah, it annoys me he left the game field after making something so wonderfully genius, but man, he just wants to make people happy, there is no reason for that sorta backsass burningpantsman

Except doing the same thing over and over make Katamari Damacy really stale after 2 games

You mean makes it FABULOUS? Every game is great. They give us more and more content every time, and it's wonderful. Why mess with a perfect formula?

Activision releases the same game every year, and millions of people buy it and calling it the second coming of Christ, and that's in a genre that's already chock-full of sameness. Why is it that Katamari releases 5 games across four platforms over 8 years, each one fairly distinct from the last albeit with the same gameplay and premise, and that's bland?

            People confuse me.

Well, you're really letting your bias overtake your rationality. If Katamari can get away with having "the same gameplay and premise" what makes Call of Duty unable to do the same? Call of Duty makes changes between games, with a new campaign, multiplayer tweaks (new weapons, perks, maps), a new locale every other game (it isn't necessarily a modern-day FPS every year), and new modes (Spec ops, and now Survival for MW3). If you think the Katamari formula still works, cool. Obviously, these guys don't, but you don't have to shit on other games (has it occurred to you that they may not even like Call of Duty?) to get your point across; it looks bad.

In my opinion, both series are a little stale. I never found Katamari's gameplay deep enough to warrant more of the same, and I'm also a bit fatigued with Call of Duty.

Tl;dr- Personal preference, how does it work?

I wasn't shitting on CoD, I was shitting on the idea of a dirth of self-same FPSs, but there's one game in a genre all it's own, and apparently that makes it bland. It's silly. It was, and is, an innovative concept, and it'll continue being new until someone else decides to co-op the experience.

I never assumed they liked CoD, I was stating the simple fact that there is a game called CoD, it's the same game every year, and millions of people buy it every year. If they can get away with it, so can Katamari. So yes, that's exactly what I said. CoD gets away with it, so can Katamari.

Good work on pointing out exactly what I said to me.

Alright, here goes (it's long, sorry).

Nobody is saying Katamari is bland because it defies genres ("...but there's one game in a genre all it's [sic] own, and apparently that makes it bland"), they just want something to mix up they gameplay they found stale.

If you weren't assuming that people here like Call of Duty, then what was the point of that false equivalency (which is sad on an entirely different level)? Did it not occur to you that maybe they feel the same way about Call of Duty (meaning they find both Katamari and Call of Duty stale), rendering your entire point moot?

Also on the Call of Duty line, it seems like we're going in circles here. You think Katamari can get away with releasing the same game becuase Call of Duty does. So, what stops that from being reversed; why can't Call of Duty be the same if there are other series that can?

My main point was supposed to be that it's entirely a matter of preference. You don't think Katamari's formula is stale, they do. Nobody is wrong here. I get that you want to defend a game series you like, but using false equivalencies and whatnot is not the way to go about it.

Apparently, I came off as more of an ass than I intended to, because I feel as though I touched a nerve (although it's hard to read tone in text). My apologies. Hopefully I came off this time as a bit more level-headed (which I tried to do last time), and less of a jerk.

First off, no nerves were hit, and no harm was meant or felt. I'm too used to posting on a certain forum, and it often overtakes my normal soft-spokeness.

And I think CoD -can- be the same over and over. I don't like the formula, I never liked it even in the first game in the series, before it was even bland by it's own standards. But I acknowledge it sells, and while I don't like the -series-, and I will bash it up and down, I understand people love that formula.

By that token, I just find the use of -stale- in any context silly. I love Katamari, plenty of people love Katamari. Plenty of people love CoD. To me, Katamari is perfect just the way it is. There are small things that can be improved, but the last thing I want is to suddenly have the entire Katamari experience turned on it's head and be given a lukewarm product when all I wanted was some good old rolling fun. I'm sure there are plenty of fans of many other series who feel the same way.

That was my point earlier, and I guess in my fervor that point got lost. Yes, I hate CoD, but what I was saying wasn't "CoD is crap, Katamari is AWSM", what I was saying is "The idea of a game series getting stale is stupid.". I probably should have used Mario instead, in this instance. Even when they introduced 3d and other changes, it was still more or less the same game. And it was still -great-.

Also, as a sidenote, I've seen some info from the Katamari Fan site (yes, I'm THAT much of a dork), and apparently there is going to be a big gameplay change. Seems to be some sort of morphing ability for the shape of the Katamari mid-rolling? So, yeah, maybe it will be changing....in a good way!

This is an ideal experience for a portable system...and really, this system is the only one out there that can do it justice. I think its the perfect example of why portable gaming benefits from having actual buttons and d-pads and sticks and what-have-you. I'm not saying other platforms need those things...I'm saying they're limited in what they can do by not having them.

Another game I could see working amazingly well on this system (or the 3DS for that matter) is Super Meat Boy.
