More than a dozen new screens for EA and DICE's anticipated shooter Battlefield 3 have been released, and yes, they look pretty. The upcoming shooter has definitely piqued the interest of our community due to its use of the new Frostbite 2 engine, which miraculously makes war a much more appealing affair than it really is.

Battlefield 3 uses the FIFA animation engine, for more realistic movement

Battlefield 3 is set to launch on October 25 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. I recently went hands on with the PlayStation 3 version of the game and enjoyed the intense infantry action, despite some graphical flaws.

War might be hell, but it sure does look pretty

Consoles (Microsoft and Sony) are holding back the beta, PC beta is ready but they won't release it because of the consoles.

allegedly Sony's the final hold-up. Though it really doesn't matter.

There was a page posted on the BF3 forums, can't find it. It said that Microsoft and Sony are testing the game so it doesn't slow down the consoles or something, and it usually takes 1-2 weeks to do so.

perhaps in-engine screenshots, but I doubt that's in-game, way too much bullshot there. Crazy use of depth of field blurring.

...and you have experience with anything other than the alpha? Because it didn't look THAT good in the alpha, not even close.

I can see this photo being in game.

That's because it was an alpha that had the highest graphics settings deliberately disabled.

That was never quoted, at all, by DICE or EA. Just speculation by hopeful fans. The jury is still out on whether or not the Alpha's High Mode was the real High mode. Having played it myself, I can confirm some of these bullshots could have been taken in the Alpha, but it doesn't look nearly as good in motion at all. EA has some VERY skilled cherrypickers when it comes to carefully angled screen shots.

yeah the FPS counter display on this for most systems would probably 0 or 1 or something. nice looking engine at any rate.

Definitely won't look that good on consoles, but it'll have a shot on the PC.

I love Dice and the Battlefield series, but I'd have to agree with dedgecko. Bad Company 2 also has a lot of official screenshots that look like they could have been doctored with in-engine shader effects to get them looking just perfect, but the game doesn't end up looking like that when you're playing it, even if you have everything maxed.

        For example:

...and just about every other screenshot in that series.

        Crysis 2 looks that good so why couldn't BF3? I don't see anything that doesn't look in-game.

Looks unbelievably amazing!! But damn you EA for taking away my right to play this game!! (by not including it on steam).

        lol, umadbro?

Buy the game retail, or from somewhere other than Origin, just like you bought any other game before Steam. Save your installer / disk, and be done with it.

Your rights do not include the ability to buy every game on Steam. That's a goddamn inane statement.
