Minecraft 1.8 update is live

Minecraft's 'Adventure Update' is now official available via the game's launcher.

Though a developer at Mojang Specifications released a company-sanctioned leak of Minecraft's 1.8 update last week, the latest update for the game is now available via the game's official launcher.

The news today came from Minecraft mastermind Markus "Notch" Persson, who revealed via Twitter that the "Adventure Update" went live earlier today. Notch does note that there is one hitch at the moment, "Minecraft.net isn't up right now because of web ops stuff." The team is working to correct that issue.

And yet boats are still laggy garbage in multiplayer. I don't expect this to change before "official" game release.

Boats are laggy because of the server's HD access as it generates/writes the new chunks. Boat travel is quite quick so the server is generating the chunks more quickly. if the HD is slow then that's what you get. A minecraft server running it on an SSD drive wouldn't have this problem.

They worked fine before he tried to "fix them". If he's incapable of doing so properly then he should be rushing his product out onto the shelves.

Rushing it to shelves? It's not even out yet. This is a beta that everyone's signed up for...

Pre-alpha version of the Beta last I knew. Are we up to actual Beta status now?

HD access is hardly the problem it's network latency. Boats are server side now, they get clunky when info isn't reaching you fast enough. Network is far more of a bottleneck than hard drive access

Visually, it's a big improvement, especially with terrain generation. Loving it.

What they were previously calling the Adventure Update is really split between 1.8 and 1.9 now.

Did they change how caverns generate? I started a new world last night and the cavern that is right below me is the biggest cavern I've ever seen. I'm hours into it and still working it, its so big I'm happy when I find a dead end. Its larger than than anything I've seen on youtube. It's like a 10 minute climb to the surface just from where i've made it to so far.

And I've still never found diamond :(

I found an awesome split in the earth underground. Haven't found the end. The fog just makes it feel awesome. Loving all the new environmental effects like lighting and fog, etc.

        - yep, food. I generated a world last night that started me in a really gigantic ocean biome, on a little dirt island with one tree on the far side. I almost starved to death waiting for planted trees to grow until i remembered the fishing pole build I never paid any attention to before. This game just keeps getting more awsome.

        - Adventure is not a mode yet, just the name of the update
        - There are a bunch of edible items. They fill your food bar instead of your health bar now, and your health regenerates when you're well fed.
        - yup
        - The villages are in, but there aren't any NPCs yet.

I could barely get back in my house after accidentally glancing at one the other day before it was slamming itself against my door. The way they turn their head and look at you is creepy as hell. I was practically out of my chair trying to get to the safety of my house haha
