Tribes: Ascend opens beta applications

Hi-Rez Studios has opened up registrations for the Tribes: Ascend beta test, saying the closed beta will launch in the coming weeks.

Hi-Rez Studios is planning to kick off the closed beta of Tribes: Ascend within the next few weeks, and has opened up registrations for interested testers. They promise that beta testers will number in the thousands, and more will be added through the end of the year as the company ramps up its testing in preparation for an early 2012 launch.

You can register through the game's official site. The beta will include four multiplayer maps, two game modes, three vehicles, and 12 playable classes. Matches support up to 32 players at a time. An Xbox 360 version is planned, but the game's "initial focus" is on the PC.

I got to talk with the Hi-Rez guys at PAX and I'm glad they got the Tribes 2e IP. The game really captures the feel of Tribes 2 which is one of my favorite games of all time. Hope they add the thundersword to the game.

That's hard to imagine... they made Global Agenda too, which was a knock off of Tribes and quite ghetto too.

I enjoyed Global Agenda quite a bit even actually. It doesn't have the best production values but it's still a damn good game considering it's a small game studio.

I've played each of the Tribes games quiet a bit and honestly Ascend really captures the overall feel of Tribes and Tribes 2. I really enjoyed playing the hell out of it at PAX.

Saw this at PAX, super psyched. Definitely the sleeper hit of 2011 for me. Global Agenda, was also pretty rad, so this going to be good.

they know by re-announcing that they'll get a free bump in advertising. Keeps the game in the public eye.
