Nintendo fans are now able to join in the fun of getting excited for a firmware update. Nintendo has announced a system update for its 3DS portable, and it is one of the most significant updates Nintendo has ever provided one of its systems. Available in November, the system update will upgrade the camera to record 3D video, in addition to 3D photos.

That alone is a rather substantial bonus for Nintendo fans. However, there's one more thing being added to the 3DS next month. StreetPass--the feature that lets you automatically collect Mii data from nearby 3DS owners--will be updated with new StreetPass challenges and experiences.

Interesting, I wonder how long they were planning on keeping that a secret.

I doubt they wanted it to be kept secret. Unless I'm mistaken, this was announced at their press conference, not some internal memo leak.

Yeah, but I have a feeling it was in the plans all along as a sort of "slow season pick me up" that they didn't expect to have to use so soon. I have a feeling it wouldn't have shown its head for a while if the 3DS had been selling well.
