Skyrim video: twenty minutes of gameplay

Bethesda has released a lengthy video walkthrough of its recent closed-doors Skyrim media demo.

Bethesda showed off a lengthy gameplay The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim demo behind closed doors at E3 and PAX, but now the unwashed masses can finally see it for themselves with a long set of video demonstrations. The video set is narrated by game director Todd Howard, and takes you through some of the environments.

It doesn't show off the character creation that stole hours of Xav's time at PAX, but it does showcase the different perspectives and dual-wielding. Check it out below.

The dragon grabbing the giant and flying off tossing it off into the distance was beyond epic.

Technically, it was marvelous. In terms of art direction, it slipped into uncanny valley. The giant in an awkward pose, falling out the sky. But... these are just niggling details compared to what they're accomplishing in the larger scope.

I don't know if it actually deformed the land, but it definitely erased a bunch of plants.

I read the guy who wrote the Dark Brotherhood storyline from Oblivion is back doing his thing again. So, that's exciting.

That is correct. It was Emil Pagliarulo, who got promoted in Fallout 3 to Lead Designer. For Skyrim he is Lead Designer again, working on the Dark Brotherhood story line, and he designed the dragon language.

          That man is great.

I'm pretty sure they mentioned the three standard ones (fighter, mage, thief) and then we've been told Dark Brotherhood will be back too.

I hope there's more than that, but even just those four I never actually finished all of in Oblivion.

The Skyrim version of the Mages Guild is "The College of Winter's Hold", the Fighters guild is known as "The Companions." So far all that is know about the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood is that they exist, no idea if they are separate or related entities from what was in Oblivion.

Mass Effect's directed/controlled story was nice but it doesn't hold a candle to Bethesda's work. Bethesda's stuff is just in a class all it's own. Seeing the weather change as you went higher up into the mountains, panning around and realizing that you can actually explore everything you're looking at. Simply awesome. Day one buy along with every piece of DLC.

Are they going to have NPC's that all say exactly the same thing, but with a different voice actor reading the exact same line? Not that that ever stopped me from buying and playing the hell out of them

No. They have brought in 20 voice actors to record words from the dictionary. When you encounter an NPC, it will randomly pick a voice actor out for each different word and generate the vocals on the fly.

Bethesda hired 70 voice actors/actresses for Skyrim. I think Oblivion had 20.

After playing so many bethesda games and hearing the same voice actors time and time again, getting additional voice actors is a much appreciated and needed change.

Or they could waste all the voice acting budget on one high profile actor who is only there for the first 10 minutes of the game.

I want to see videos on the world itself and the roleplaying aspects of the game. Exploration has always been my favorite part of the Elder Scrolls series.
